Chapter 35: In Ruins

A sudden sound of explosion from their backs took them off guard, as Diake let out a yelp and staggered forward alongside Max. Both turned to look at the source, and their eyes widened.

"Silent Faith, what's the matter?" Mei questioned.

A surge of intense Honkai energy began to pour from the desolate neighbourhood, causing the already weak willed people in the neighbourhood to turn into zombies themselves. The source of the explosion was invisible, or at least, not seen by the naked eye from their distance.

"Bad news, V. Whole neighbourhood is struck by an Eruption."

". . . Excuse me?" Emilia piped in.

"Yeah. We have a problem."

The duo jolted slightly when they heard a gunshot reminiscing of a sniper rifle. Immediately knowing who it was, Diake's eyes widened, and he immediately rushed towards the source, just as Max wanted to stop him.

"RUKIA!!"

"DIAKE, STAY ON COURSE!!" Himeko's voice fell on deaf ears as he continued running, shooting through hordes of zombies while the shots of the rifle grew louder the closer he got.

Meanwhile

"Get away from me!" Rukia exclaimed, as she continued to open fire to the awakened Herscherr outside of the ruined house, despite her weakened status. However, it was to no avail, as the Herscherr itself effortlessly blocked the high speed bullets like it was nothing.

"Hm~. Your bravery is commendable. However--"

Snapping her fingers, there was nothing for a single second before Rukia noticed a shadow growing larger on the ground. Looking up, she widened her eyes before she dodged from the shadow, before being flung away by the impact of the large being. Landing on the snow that softened her fall, losing her rifle along the way, she slowly recovered herself, before gasping.

It was the same zombie that Silent Faith had seen. Equipping the swords and scythes on its limbs, the zombie let out a growl before letting out a blood curdling scream that caused Rukia to become terrified and paralyzed with fear.

"Get--" the Herscherr cut herself off when she felt a sudden surge of heat from above.

"AWAY FROM HER!!!" Diake exclaimed out of nowhere, followed by a sudden fiery explosion in place of the zombie and Herscherr.

"Diake-nii!" She called out, and in place of the Herscherr saw a giant spear encased in fire struck down onto the ground. On the butt of the spear stood Diake, glaring down at the Herscherr that remained unscathed from a short distance away from him. Some of his hair was black and his left eye was also black, indicating a change.

"Ah. Kaide. I'm surprised you're here," the Herscherr taunted.

"Well well well. Herscherr of Stupidity."

"How dare you!! I am the Herscherr of Dismemberment! Once I am done with your puny sister, I will ensure that your torture will last for as long as possible!" She exclaimed, and Diake noticed that the existence of the zombie was not nearby. Realizing this, Diake's eyes widened and the Herscherr smirked.

"RUKIA GET OUTTA THERE!!" Diake exclaimed, grabbing his spear, falling off of it and spotted the zombie right behind her.  Snapping out of her paralysis, she quickly jumped forward onto Diake, ducking in the process as the zombie missed decapitating her with its scythes.

Plural. Scythes.

Throwing his spear towards the zombie with the intent to blow it up, it was immediately stopped by the Herscherr, who disappeared from the side and reappeared out of the zombie, the tip of the spear simply touching the palm of her hand.
