Chapter 46: Babylon 2.0

"Himeko, I don't know what's going on, but it sounds like there was an actual justifiable reason as to why they abandoned this HQ," Seere stated, as the shrieks intensified, and the banging became more apparent to their ears. Himeko heard all this, and her worry overrode her mission protocol.

"All of you need to get out of there, pronto!! Do not lose sight or touch with each other!" She declared, and hearing this order, they all obeyed, and they all began to drag Mei (and her weapon) back to the elevator that they had went to, as the sounds of shrieks and banging became even stronger and louder.

And then, the inevitable occurred.

They felt an impact of a wall being destroyed, the floor shaking wildly below them, before they heard a shriek that was so ear piercing, that they had to cover their ears.

"Warning. Warning. Subject destroyed captivity. Initiate defensive measures."

The robotic voice they heard previously from the elevator was heard, before the lights were fully on, revealing its interior, albeit slightly, to these unfortunate students.

The source of light came from the floor, its light bright enough to illuminate the floor, but not the ceiling nor the walls, which gave the feeling that the ceiling was taller than what they anticipated it to be as it was still covered by darkness. They continued running, making sure that they remember where the elevator was. Turning to the very first corner they saw, they all rushed to the elevator and slammed its button furiously.

"Elevator not available. Quarantine defensive protocols are active."

"Goddamnit!" John exclaimed, before the floor rumbled. It was softly at first, before it intensified.

"The Bronya will attempt to hack into the system," Bronya stated, before laying a hand onto the elevator button, despite the danger that may be posed upon her should she do so. The shaking intensified even further.

"Everyone, prepare yourselves to defend Bronya!" Fu Hua declared, raising her fist while the others raised their weapons in preparation for the oncoming threat. The floor shook heavily, and it nearly threw some of them off balance, but they continued to stay in their positions.

"How are you guys in there?!" Himeko called out.

"Bronya's hacking the elevator right now. We're gonna defend her," Kiana replied.

". . . . Please come back unscathed."

". . . . . . . . ."

They couldn't reply, as they finally laid eyes on the source of all the shaking ground. And it was nothing like they had ever seen before.

The Honkai was reminiscent of a Homu, with its skin a neon yellow, and a razor teeth smile, but this added more to its uncanny valley, as its whole body was human-like, but it was so huge it nearly took the space of the whole hallway. The body itself was a mess of twists and contortions in such a way that it somehow defied the laws of biology. Its toned torso was facing the opposite direction one would expect from its original position, showing off its spine at the front instead. It seemed like the arms and legs, despite being extremely muscly, were misplaced, with a leg on top and an arm at the bottom. Pink veins stood out from its body and its eyes were a lifeless pink. It continued walking(?), not noticing them yet. They all made sure to keep their breaths steady so as to not catch its attention with the slimmest chance of it not spotting them.

The chances were slim anyway, of course it would see them.

Noticing unfamiliar people pointing their guns to it at the corner of its eyes, the Homu let out a blood curdling shriek, causing the students to grit their teeth before noticing the thing running towards them. All those with the guns pulled the triggers, as bullets flew to the Homu, some of which were able to pierce through its skin. However, they saw no blood pouring out from the wound, before they all dodged the charging Homu, save for Bronya, who continued on scanning the elevator. She was so close to the Homu, and yet she was able to not even get a single hair touched by it.
