Chapter 26: More On Sofia

". . . And that's how I became a Valkyrie," Sofia casually finished her story, following the group of men alongside her (There were 4 of them). It had only been just half an hour since she finished her fight against the Honkai Beasts, and she seemed rather unscathed. Then again, because of the nature of her cells, it must have regenerated as well. None of the scientists truly knew if she did walked out of it unscathed, but nevertheless, there they were, scanning the surroundings for the intensity of the radioactive waste in the city.

"Interesting story," one of them stated. He seemed unique from the rest because of the fact that he had a wristwatch on his left belt, instead of wearing it properly on the wrist. When she asked, he simply responded that he was a watchmaker before being a scientist, like his father before him. Interested by this revelation, she asked if he could make a wristwatch for her.

"I-I'll see what I can do, madam."

Seeing the woman's smile made his heart flutter slightly, before they continued their investigation.

"According to the signs here, the intensity has been lessened considerably. Have any idea, Valkyrie?" One asked. To make him stand out, he will be nicknamed Scientist.

"I dunno. Honkai, maybe?" She suggested.

"You. . . You said that you've been here a lot of times before."

"I did. But that doesn't mean I do field work. That's your work."

Silence eroded into the surroundings, and so Sofia took her time by checking herself as they continued walking.

'Still flat, I see,' she thought to herself upon looking down to her chest. Pouting, she attempted to ignore this as she checked the rest of her body.

She wasn't wearing her usual battlesuit, and instead opted for casual clothes consisting of a white shirt and a long black skirt. And she wasn't wearing anything else underneath those simply because she didn't want to contaminate her clothes with radiation. And there was no way she'd go around this mission completely naked.

Then again, she could use that to her advantage, since she's chock full of radiation, but that's a whole other can of worms that she wouldn't want to explore.

"Anything over there so far?" He asked to one of the riflemen. The assault rifle the two soldiers held were the IWI Tavor TAR-21, a bullpup made from Israel and imported to Ukraine. The Ukrainian government planned to have their own assault rifle someday, but for now, this was what they were stuck with. Sofia remembered a game that was popular with the young children. Something about the guns being anthropomorphic. Shaking her head, shrugging it off as something that was just a one time thing and people will just move on, she watched as one of the riflemen aimed the scoped sights of the assault rifle and saw nothing beyond the distance.

"None so far. Looks like we're in the cl--" he was cut off when a faint 'bang' was heard and in a split second, blood was all over the scientists, as the rifleman fell on his back, blood spouting out of two holes in the mask.

"HOLY SHIT!!!" The scientist exclaimed, before Sofia immediately looked around and dragged the dead body and subsequently the assault rifle away from the empty street and into a derelict building block entrance, as the gun shot echoed throughout the empty town, likely attracting Honkai to the sniper's vicinity. The other three followed suit, scared out of their wits.

"What the fuck. What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck. . ." Scientist chanted under his breath. Looking at the dead scientist, watchman took the bullpup from the dead body before taking their ammunition as well.

"Do you three have a clue on who that was?" Sofia asked.

"We don't," Rifleman replied.

"Seconded," Watchman replied soon after. The two glanced at their leader, who seem broken down by the original rifleman's death. They concluded that he also didn't know who it was.
