Chapter Thirty-Three: The Gamer

"Support me, (Name)!" Adrien says before they start the game Ultimate Mecha Strike III with Max as his opponent.

"Okay." (Name) says watching the two players with Juleka, Rose, Alix, and Myléne close to her.

Marinette has just arrived at Collège Françoise Dupont. She enters the courtyard and suddenly, she hears something from the Library. Tikki appears also questioning what the noise is. "What's that noise?"

"Hide, Tikki!" She enters the library to see Adrien and Max playing Ultimate Mecha Strike with Alya recording them. Marinette goes to her best friend. "What's going on, Alya?" 

Alya shushes her not answering her question and Rose being a nice girl she is, explains seeing her classmate with zero clue what's happening. "Try-outs for the Paris Ultimate Mecha Strike III Tournament! This school sends the two students with the highest scores!"

Kim butts in explaining more of it. "Actually, the tryouts offer a partner to team up with Max in the Tournament."

"Why Max?" Marinette questions then glances at (Name) beside Alix.

"Cause he's unbeatable! He's a total rocksord! He's got the highest APM over anyone!"

"APM?"

"Actions per minute? This tournament is his whole life! He's been grinding all year to level up." Adrien's robot, NAD03, uses his special attack on Max's robot, MX-01. MX-01 is crushed and NAD03 wins.

"Adrien is now in the lead." The teacher announces and the students cheer except for Max.

Kim asks his bestfriend. "What happened, Max?"

Instead of brooding for long, Max congratulates Adrien. "Hmm. Awesome job. We're gonna make a killer combo." Adrien high fives him as the class cheer.

Adrien goes to where (Name) is and asks. "Are you sure you don't want to do this with me? I mean, you beat me at every videogame we played."

"Positive."

"But why?"

(Name) suddenly has a flashback regarding on the videogames incident on her last school and there was fire, lots of lots of fire and evil laughing from her and shrieking in horror from her self-proclaimed rival while he runs away from her.

"(Name)?"

The girl goes back to reality when Juleka poked her cheek. Her friends are staring at questioning wondering what made her leave reality for a moment. "Yeah, I'm not joining... unless there's a valid reason."

"Wait! Uh, Is it too late... to try out?" Their attention shifts to the clumsy class representative. Kim and Rose gasp hearing this.

Mr. Damocles mentions. "Well, the library is closing up in five minutes, but..." Marinette persists sitting down in front of the screen and Adrien gives her his joypad.

"Adrien's joypad!" She rubs the joypad on her face and hastily puts it down. The two childhood friends looks at each other not knowing what to comment to this behaviour. After a moment (Name) chuckles.

"Is she serious? There's no way!"

"Seems that she is."

"Unless the particular player has a particular motivation."

"The rules are elementary, You battle each other's robots with your own and..." Max tries to explain but Marinette cuts him off explaining it on her own words much to his annoyance.
