Chapter 122 - preparation

Sorry this took longer than usual I just have a lot of school work. I'm might get another one out this weekend.

You: fuck.

You feel your heart sinking quickly and your fingers start twitching nervously as the realisation of the horde sets in.

Clem: that explain the abnormal numbers. Stragglers.

Violet: what the fuck are we going to do?

Clem: well we need to prepare in case we are in their direct path. And we also need to avoid detection in case they might just miss us.

You can't take your eyes off of the cloud. Max is swirling round your head. You can't make out what he's saying.

Clem: we need to tell the others.

Violet: I'll go gather everyone for a meeting. You break the news.

Clem: thank you.

You can feel max trying to take over in your distraction.

Clem stands next to you, by the edge.

Clem: shit...

She looks at you.

Clem: you ok?

She places a hand on your wrist.

As you feel her fingers tighten Max's influence instantly fades and he stops talking, as you are snapped back into your body.

You: yeah... I umm... just needed a minute.

Clem: I know what you mean. But we can avoid this if we are smart.

You: I know.

You look at her.

You: and with you running the place I'm sure we'll do it without a hitch.

Clem smiles but you can see in her eyes she stressed.

Clem: I'll try. Let's go and discuss the game plan.

You both climb down the tower and as you reach the bottom you see everyone crowding round a big table looking confused.

Clem stops for a second to catch her breath before the two of you walk over.

Clem: so there's no easy way to say this.

Everyone looks at her.

Clem: we've got a horde on the horizon. A big one too.

Everyone's faces sink into panic even if they're trying to hide it. People start asking questions all at once but clem doesn't let it overwhelming her.

Clem: look I know you're all scared. I am too but we can avoid any destruction or even the horde all together if we are smart.

Louis: what's the plan?

Clem: well we'll need some new rules.

Clem takes a moment to think.

Clem: no lights on after dark. We need all these lights out now once we've finished discussing. We need to be as quiet as possible at all times. The trees will carry any noise we make straight to the horde. We need everyone in the morning working on that back wall. We don't want it falling over again. We also need to bring all the horses inside the walls, maybe even inside if it gets to that point. No cooking or even fires. We can't risk them smelling it. No venturing out at all. We don't want to get spotted. We need someone up in the watchtower constantly reporting on which way the horde is going.

You: I'll round up some stragglers at first light so we have walker guts on standby if we need the horde to pass over us.

Ruby: we need to warn the other group.
