Chapter 64 - always together

You both step in the room and you drop all your weapons at the foot of the bed and take you hat off.

You run your fingers through your hair. Bit long.

You: I need a trim.

Clem: me too. I like your hair right now though.

You: well I might just keep it then.

You laugh.

Walking over to the bed you lean against the cold metal bars. You pull out your lighter and watch the flame flicker. Clem flops on the bed.

Clem: where you found that?

You: gas station a few weeks ago.

Clem: right then. Anything else you found and didn't tell me about?

She jokes.

You: no this is it.

You flick it shut.

Clem: are you worried about the raiders?

You: well obviously.

Clem: no I'm mean do you think we'll be able to stop them?

You: if everyone does their job then yeah I think we'll be fine. Well not fine. Just ok.

Clem: well if we stop them they'll come back.

You: not if we take the fight to them.

Clem: that's risky though.

You: for that we need ammo and a lot of man power which we don't have.

Clem: we could try and sneak in.

You: and do what? We aren't going to be able to kill them all.

Clem: let's just get through one thing at a time.

You: yeah you're right.

You sigh.

Clem: come lie down.

You do as she says and lay next to her. She puts her hand on you shoulder and rests her head on your chest.

Clem: do you ever just wish we could run away from it all. Just me and you. Go build a house wherever and just... live.

You: all the time. But we can't leave the boys and their safer in a group.

Clem: I know that's why I haven't do it.

She starts making circles on your chest with her finger.

Clem: when's the last time it was just the two of us?

You: I don't even remember.

Clem: neither do I.

You: to be honest when I realised we where safe here I was glad the car exploded. I spent so long sat and sleeping in it it annoyed me.

Clem: I can see where you are coming from but I thought of it as a place for safety.

You: that's because you could actually use it.

Clem begins to giggle.

Clem: how are you so bad at driving.

You: I don't know I just panic.

Clem: why?

You: I don't know!

She starts laughing.

You both sit in silence for a minute.

Clem: do you ever think maybe we weren't the only whitetails to survive?
