Chapter 56 - exile

You wake up later than usual as you were weak from the bullet wound. Clem is already up and so are the boys.

Scout is just stirring. You slowly climb to your feet and get really dizzy and struggle to stay stood up. Clem notices and grabs your shoulder and puts a hand on your chest to keep you standing.

Clem: you ok?

You: I'll be fine. Just a head rush.

Clem just lightly smiles at you.

You feel the dizziness stop and stand up straight.

Clem: so what do we do?

You: don't know. They aren't going to do anything to hurt us because these people aren't like that.

Clem: except Marlon.

You: except Marlon. He did shoot me but scout almost took off his hand so I think that's a decent punishment. He just has to answer for giving the twins away.

Clem: ok but what do we have to answer for?

You: well I'm sort of responsible for scouts actions so what happened to Marlon. That will make everyone scared of him and because I own him then they'll be scared of us.

Clem: so we have to answer for what happened to Marlon. What else?

You: they think the raiders could be after us so they might want to get rid of us to avoid any raider troubles.

Clem: worst case scenario they kick us out. That could be a problem.

You: a big one.

AJ: we haven't done anything wrong.

You: in their eyes we have. I see where they are coming from.

Jack: so your siding with them?!

You: no I'm just saying I see where they are coming from.

Jack looks furious.

You: calm down, boy.

You say angrily. Jack instantly gets a little scared and just falls silent. Sometimes you've got to be tough with him.

Jack: sorry.

You just put a hand on his shoulder and give him a slight smile.

Jack just nods his head.

There is a knock on the door and it slowly opens.

Violet and tenn walk in.

She seems a bit nervous.

You: morning.

You say sarcastically.

Violet: errrrm... morning...

Clem: what's happening?

Violet: we are sort of having a funeral for brody. The others don't want you there but we think you should come.

Clem: thank you. We'll be there in a second.

Violet nods her head and walks out with tenn following her.

Clem: what are we going to do?

You: well I could try and show them scout isn't going to kill everyone and is actually just a good pupper.

You say as you scratch his ear as he lays on the floor. Scout sticks his tongue out and his mouth extends looking a bit like a smile.
