Chapter 59 - taking a break

You are taking a break outside. Everyone keeps giving you jobs and it's taking its toll. You also have to sleep on the floor because the boys are still weak. Clem keeps on offering to switch but you just refuse it. She needs her sleep.

You walk through the woods and have your axe with you. You also have all your knives as usual.

You reach a point in the woods were you can hear the lake that the fishing stream connects too.

You can see the sunlight glimmer on the water. You decide to climb one of the tall, thick trees. You slowly climb to the top and reach a big cluster of big branches.

You sit on the biggest one and rest your feet on the smaller ones. The have a perfect view of the lake from here.

The breeze blows the leaves next to you giving the area some sort of calming melody. The branch is smooth compared to the rest of the tree, made of rugged bark.

Looking back at the lake, you spot the breeze causing ripples to go all across the water. The water gently brushes against the rocks on the bank of large body of water.

You spot a cavern in the distance where you see a little waterfall falling into the lake. Looks dark.

You pull your axe off your back and begin to examine it. The metal is in good shape because you sharpened it recently. The wood is decent but not what it used to be. As you examine the wood you spot the circles.

You spot the one you carved in. The wolf. Bit ironic you got a wolf after you carved that in.

Next, you notice jades circle. It's got a bullet in the middle of it. Suited her personality at least.

After that, you spot Alex's circle. He carved a mountain in. Home... the one he died protecting.

Next, you spot Thomas' circle. He carved an axe into the circle and wrote something around it. It takes you a moment to read it. Axeception. You smile at how bad that joke was. Did make sense seen as though it was an axe on an axe.

Just above that one was Joe's. Just a J. Something simple but... personal.

Finally, you notice Anna's. A little stick man in a top hat. Even though it was a bit random it does make you feel cheerful somehow.

You miss all of them. Not just alpha squad. Everyone in the whitetails. Jade, tom, Alex, Anna, joe, Lewis, finley, Elliot, Emily and even the boss. He did give you your rifle.

You look back up at the lake snapping out of your thoughts. The fresh air fills your lungs. You take your cap of for a moment and feel you hair gently sway from side to side in the wind. You put it back on.

You hear some yelling.

Clem: Y/N! You out here!

You stay silent as you see her slowly walking towards your tree. You snap off a branch from behind you. You keep an eye on her as she begins walking under you. You drop the twig. It lands behind her and she screams a little and falls over which was your goal.

You start laughing. First time you've properly laughed in a while. A proper belly laugh.

Clem: I hate you! Come down so I can kick you ass!

You: you think I'm doing that? You'll kill me! You'll have to come up to me!

Clem: not happening!

You: what are you? Chicken!?

Clem: Just come down.

You start making chicken sounds.

Clem: I will break up with you!
