Chapter 101 - reality

Max: wake up.

You slowly regain consciousness and realise it's still dark out. You are stood over your bed which is weird because you don't remember getting up. Hopefully you aren't sleep walking.

Clem is laying on her side. Her face looks pale as snow. Maybe she's sick.

You turn her over and your belly turns instantly.

Max tuts at you.

Max: now look at what you've gone and done.

You look down at clem who has a hole where her belly used to be and you try not to be sick as you start crying. You look at your hands which are covered in blood.

You: no you're lying to me. This isn't real. You're fucking with me.

You say as you stumble back.

Max: I did say you had control. For now. Well you used too.

He says as he appears stood on the other side of the bed with his grin and his melting face. His pale skin is a mirror reflecting your horror.

You struggle and escape from the room to step into the hall and see it's full of bodies. You run past them noticing they are all the members of the school. The floor is soaked in blood.

You trip and as you look up you see your axe is embedded in Finley's head. You turn and see max walking towards you calmly, even stepping on the bodies.

You reach the end of the hall and freeze to find jack and AJ laying on the floor, barely alive, shivering in fear.

Max: see this is what you do and who you've always been.

He grabs your shoulder.

You: no this isn't me.

Max: oh really. How about a trip down memory lane.

Your heart feel like it weighs 500 kg as you shake in fear as max smiles at you and your surroundings suddenly change.

You look around and find yourself in an empty city street. There are weaving vines hanging from all the disintegrating buildings and rusty cars are slightly buried in the floor as the red sun begins to rise through the gaps of the black buildings. You see a sky scraper fall in the distance. There is a whole lane filled with black body bags.

Max: these are all the people you've killed.

A huge wave of thick dust begins flying towards you that has been kicked up by the fallen sky scraper as rubble rushes past you making you flinch and shut your eyes. you open your eyes and all of a sudden there is a blaring noise and a warmth on your face. The dust around you disperses and there is an massive explosion right in front of you where the dust is coming from. Shrapnel is flying in slow motion past your head as you watch it hit people stood behind you.

Max: ah one of my favourites of all your memories. The blowing up of a base. All the innocent people running in fear who were just looking for a better life in a group.

You sake your head in denial of what you are seeing.

You: I had too, they were coming after me.

Max: not all of them. There were probably children in that building.

You blink again and you are in a morgue. Grey lights cast down on you and each body in there. On each table is each leader of the hall gang.

Max: and who could forget these lot.

You turn around to look away only to find Arvo staring you in the eyes with steely walker eyes. You can't speak your body won't let you. You are petrified. There is a mountain range behind you which is reminiscent of your old home.

Your legs collapse as you sink into yourself on the dirty floor with your back against the hard rocks behind you.

Max: but I can see where you are coming from. These were all in self defence. But what about all the ones who died because of your actions.

You find yourself staring at all the white tails with alpha squad and lewis brought right to the front.

Max: each of these was your fault. If you had found a peaceful option at any point or just gave your life instead, all these people would still be alive. But yet again you could lie to yourself and say these weren't your fault and bad people did them even if you are a bad person. Even if all of their blood is quiet literally on your hands.

You look down at your hands to see them drenched, all the way up your forearms, in blood.

You: no no no. This wasn't me.

Max: oh it was but yet again you can just lie to yourself. How about those you can't blame on anyone else. Like the one you've just done in your sleep.

You are returned to the original scene with clem on the bed and max looming over you both. You throw up in shock and you feel your ears ringing as you are about to pass out.

Max: unfortunately the bodies outside weren't real. That was just to build up excitement.

He says with a huge gleaming smile showing blood on his teeth and a hungry look in his eyes.

Max: Instead it all of your friends and family wondering what all the sound is about and who was just screaming. Not long now before they open the door and find you. Your friend shocked at this BRUTAL scene. Two children wondering why their only carer has just eaten the other.

You begin to have a panic attack and try to wake up from this nightmare.

Max: oh there is no waking up.

You: they're going to kill us for what YOU'VE done.

Max: what we've done. And to be honest it was worth it to see this reaction. But I'm not finished with you yet. Let's go back to the one that started it all.

You appear in a cave standing over susie.

Max: see your first was a child. And I know you enjoyed it.

You: I didn't. I regret it to this day.

It all goes silent until you hear shouting.

Max: looks like they found you. With your dead girlfriend.

He says in a smug tone rocking his head from side to side and rolling his eyes at you.

You hear a blisteringly loud gun shot and a thud as everything fades away instantly. Even max disappears as you float in pure darkness.

You continue panicking and start calling out for help as loud as you can. You keep screaming for help.

But no one can hear you.
