Cigno Fanciulla Act I: Sinfonia Sparza
《Chapter V - Departure》

Years have passed, and the joys of youth have long been gone. Two souls agreed to meet at the same destination, but chose to pursue different paths for the sake of growth and a prideful competition.

"Fenella! It's been quite long that you've served under me, are you not bored yet?" Pulcinella asked while I served food for the new recruits after their first day of deployment here in Fontaine.

I pondered over the thought as I gave him his serving, then sat next to him at the table as his second-hand of six years. 10 years have passed since me and Eiji- I mean Scaramouche fled Inazuma and served under the Tsaritsa as part of the Fatui. Quite unfair if you ask me.

While Eiji had immediately been given his position as the sixth harbinger under the alias of Scaramouche the Balladeer, I had to spend two years of training to prove my worth, and another two years serving under Capitano's wing. It hadn't been too bad with one of the higher ranking Harbingers, and I enjoyed serving under him as he was like a brother figure to me, but to only be given a position of second-in-line placement to Pulcinella was quite the downer.

Alas, the past six years spent in Fontaine was of me maintaining footing here as a member of the performer's troupe along with Lyney and Lynette - or in the Fatui they're known to be Arlecchino and Colombina. Then there was me, the prized belle of the troupe, Fenella the Maiden of Swans.

Eight years of not a single meeting with Scaramouche. All because of my duty as acting second to Pulcinella, I had to remain here at the nation whenever they were called for by the Tsaritsa. How boring indeed. Without a cloud of hesitation, I let out a dissatisfied huff that sent Pulcinella laughing.

"Well, thankfully there's no need for you to stay here! You're being transferred to the Sixth." He cackled, and and tapped my back joyfully.

I couldn't picture the expression on my face as of the moment, but something told me that it was precious enough to send the whole dinner hall at awe. I did however, felt tears trickle down not out of sadness, but out of joy.

Oh to be reunited after such long years of waiting! This has been all of my heart's yearning for quite a while now.

"Gee, I didn't expect you to be this happy. As a father figure, I can help but cry!" And there he goes again, overreacting as he always does. After all, Pulcinella was known to be quite the tale teller and boastful gloat quite always throat to throat with a like flame in the form of Capitano.

Ah yes, I recall the day Capitano had to let me go. It was quite the fit of an argument, or as they say, competition they had on who was the better suited mentor for me.

I'd be more than glad to be spending my years serving Scaramouche, than to have more of these overbearing father figures.

"So, when will I depart?" I asked, snapping out of my thoughts in order to have ample time for my preparations.

He swallowed his food, then cleared his throat by intaking a glass of water to keep his composure before explaining the details. With a serious tone, he said, "Tomorrow, for you are needed the day after. The Balladeer shall await you at the castle as Her Highness asked for your audience as well."

"Splendid. It's my first time in eight years to see the Lady Tsaritsa again." If my memory serves me right, the last time she asked for an audience with me was before I served under Pulcinella.
