shut up and drive
"now shut up and drive"

The open road stretched out far in front of Luna, the road closed in by large trees on either side, the branches distorting the streams of sunlight that flooded the concrete highway. Compulsively, her eyes flicked back and forth between the narrow roads before her and the reflection in her rear-view mirror. Paranoia was the one thing she couldn't escape as she jumped from country to country and city to city. Luna never arranged anything: She'd pack a small bag, throw it on her shoulder and pray for a seamless journey. Not having a plan is what had kept her hidden.

Hidden from him.

It was a strategy reliant on fate and luck. She'd hoped the stars would align in her favour and she could maintain some semblance of peace. Luna could only delude herself into a state of tranquillity when she was on the road. From the windshield of the car or the window of a plane, she'd look at the direction the wind took the leaves. It was the only moment she could revel in the little things. The instant she'd stop and take a moment to enjoy the limitless things the many places she'd visited had to offer, she'd get found. And she hated the admit she'd made that mistake more than once.

Being at a disadvantage put a sour taste in her mouth, and to her, being at a disadvantage was a weakness. She longed for a normal life at times and wished she wouldn't have to feel on edge at all times. She'd hope that she wouldn't have to see more of the open road and dream that she'd be able to build an attachment to a place again.

But her hopes and dreams were incinerated along with her love for him. She refused to feel as weak as she did that night.

Absently, her eyes flicked back up to the rear-view mirror, catching a glimpse of a black car trailing at a safe distance behind her. She doubled back quickly, her eyes glaring at the matte car as it sped up and drew closer and closer.

Her foot hit the gas and sped up, trying to push the thought of being followed out of her mind. Her heart raced in her chest matching the roar of the engine. The car mimicked her movement, stalking her like a rabid animal. The instant she saw the blacked out car racing in her direction relentlessly:

She knew who it was.

The pedal almost went through the floor, going from 50mph to 80 in a second, but the car behind her didn't give up. Her hands clutched the steering wheel, white knuckling it. Her eyes glanced up at the rear-view mirror and watched as another car pulled into the next lane from behind the matte car. It's speed exceed the one of the latter car, preparing the cut Luna off.

An exit to the left caught her eye and turned into it as quickly as she could, just barely skimming the speeding car. She raced down a narrow road with tall trees surrounding her, towering over her black Camaro. She didn't stop driving, she didn't care where she went. She just had to get away. The two cars followed closely behind like they were her own security detail.

Once she saw a light blue car trailing down the same road, she knew there was no use trying to outrun them on an empty road and her only choice was to deal with them.

Luna pressed down on the brake and the car stopped instantly, causing her to fly forward, only her seatbelt preventing her from flying through the windshield.

She cautiously opened her car door, stepping out as her eyes scanned the blue car that was now pulled over on the side of the road. She sighed to herself, knowing she would have to deal with a witness.

"What a pussy," she said to herself, silently cursing the man she once loved so deeply. She would've done anything for him. And as far as she knew, he would've done anything for her, but one night changed her perception of him forever.

Luna's heels clicked as she stepped out in the middle of the road. The two cars came to a stop quickly upon seeing her. She drew in a deep breath, allowing the cold air to burn her throat as her eyes fluttered shut and her hands raised on either side of her. In an instant, both cars flipped at once, tumbling down the road as debris scattered along the road.

"Come on! I know that didn't kill you! Why don't you come and deal with me!" Luna yelled, almost bored. She buried any inkling of fear deep inside of her as she prepared herself. She knew was more powerful than any baby vampires sent her way by a psycho.

8 men stepped out, 4 from each car. They were walking towards her menacingly. Luna couldn't fight the smirk pulling up on her face as they inched closer towards her. She exhaled and concentrated her mind, balling her hands into fists so tight her fingernails almost broke through skin. When she opened their hands:

She blew their heads off.

The blue car didn't move. She could hear two heartbeats rattling inside of the Camaro and she knew two people had just seen the whole encounter. She looked around tentatively, making sure nobody else would pull into the narrow, one-way road before racing over to the car at the side of the road.

She walked to the blue car quickly, knowing she was running out of time. She knew there would be more where they came from and it wasn't over. He was getting closer and it made her panic. Her pace slowed as she approached the car. She walked to the window with a devilish grin, but it quickly dropped when she noticed who was seated inside of the car.

It was her brothers. Damon and Stefan.

"What the fuck?" Luna yelled.
