'How's the bride-to-be feeling?' Luna shyly slid into one of the rooms of the Mikaelson compound, with a white lace dress awkwardly hidden behind her back. Hayley spun around frantically, seemingly out of place. Luna knew revealing the expensive dress wouldn't help, but she did it anyway.
Hayley grimaced, standing awkwardly in the centre of the large bedroom, 'This is all weird enough,' she waved her hands around, 'And now you're giving me a dress? I don't need charity.'
Luna frowned, 'It's not charity,' she said matter-of-factly, sauntering across the room to hang the dress up. She straightened the delicate material meticulously before facing the nervous bride, 'It's one of the many gifts that come with being a vampire.'
'Right. And which one would that be?'
'Free stuff, obviously.'
Hayley rolled her eyes at the words, tightly folding her arms over her chest. The tension in Luna's shoulders subsided and her eyes softened. She offered the girl a small, knowing smile. Her eyes flicked towards the dress before settling on Hayley, who looked like a deer caught in headlights.
The moment felt thick with unspoken words, words that neither of them dared utter. Luna paused, biting her tongue as she considered what words of comfort she could offer, 'Marriage is never easy. And I married Klaus, so you're already getting off easy.'
Hayley scoffed out a laugh, shaking her head slightly before falling back on the bed. She stared at the ceiling for a long moment, as if waiting for the right words to find her, 'I guess you're right,' Hayley spoke quietly and seemed hesitant to divulge her true feelings. She glanced over at the dress, her eyes fixed on the white gown as she said, 'That doesn't make it any easier.'
Luna didn't reply, crossing her arms over her chest and silently processing her words. Hayley shifted uncomfortably and propped herself up on her elbows, narrowing her eyes at the heretic. Suddenly, the weight of everything plummeted down on Hayley. The dress, the wedding, their alliance; She almost crumbled under the pressure, but she regained her composure within a moment, 'I just don't know if I'm ready.'
'No one ever is,' Luna shot back with a sly smirk, and she'd hoped it would ease the tension. Hayley blinked, and Luna watched her intently, her gaze unwavering, 'Besides, I think it's a little late to back out now.'
A small chuckle escaped, 'Guess so,' she muttered, running a hand through her hair as she gave Luna a sheepish smile.
'Good,' Luna's back straightened, 'Because every caterer in a 25-mile radius has been compelled, so...' She winked at Hayley as she moved towards the door. The pair shared a brief, knowing look. Amid the chaos that had enveloped their lives, a short, genuine moment of care was a gift that satiated each of them.
'Hey,' Hayley called after her. Luna paused, looking back with a perplexed expression, 'I do appreciate it. All of this.'
