'That was stupid

'That was stupid.' Was the first thing Klaus said. He didn't say anything the entire way home, and once they had, he just looked at her, hoping the pressure of his stare or the silence he refused to break would make her speak first.

When he finally spoke, Luna huffed, preparing for her hundredth lecture on her recklessness. That she shouldn't have left, that she should've said something.

'I know.' She replied.

'Very stupid.'

'I didn't say it wasn't.' She leaned back into the sofa.

'Then--' Klaus started loudly. He cut himself off and took a deep breath, lowering himself into the seat directly across from her. 'Then why did you do it?'

She lost herself in his eyes for a moment, watching as they narrowed at her prolonged silence. If there were any time to tell him about her fears and doubts, it would be now. Her hand drifted to her back pocket.

She dropped the Six of Wands onto the table between them, the card slightly creased. He picked it up carefully, flipping it around and glaring at the words etched into it. Klaus looked up at her, 'Isn't this--'

'Yep.' She interrupted, already anticipating his question. She shifted in her seat, looking skyward like it might make her brain work harder and faster. 'Now, Tristan knew I was a Gemini, so Aurora knowing makes sense. What doesn't make sense is her knowing something that happened in a dream.'

Klaus fell silent again. His attention was pinned to the card, like he thought that if he stared long enough, he might have an epiphany. Luna didn't have anything to say that might comfort him, so she spoke freely, 'She could've killed me.' He suddenly looked up with those words, 'But she didn't. So either she just hesitated, or...'

'She's waiting for the right opportunity.'

'Bingo.' She said, leaning over the sofa and plucking an entire bottle of whiskey off the side table. She took a generous sip before handing it to Klaus, who took it from her hand with no hesitation, 'I don't really care about when. I want to know why.'

Klaus frowned as he drank from the bottle, 'I'd think 'when' is more important.'

Luna scoffed, 'But knowing why is far more interesting.'

He placed the bottle down, leaned back, and folded his arms. He studied Luna for a moment, 'You really have no sense of self-preservation, do you?'

Luna's grip found the bottle again, 'Maybe I just like pissing you off.' She shrugged.

'You excel at it.'

'I'm very committed to my craft.' Luna teased, mockingly placing one hand over her chest while he cradled the bottle with the other.

Klaus hummed, 'You're more committed to that than keeping yourself alive.'

Her sardonic grin dropped quickly, and she cocked her head to the side slightly. Klaus raised his brows like he was waiting for her to answer. 'Someone has to keep you humble.'
