Sam, Bucky, and I waited while Bruce got prepared to send Steve back to put the stones where they belonged. We won. We lost so much in the process, but we won. We brought everyone back. Almost.
A knot in my throat formed as I thought of Natasha, Vision, and Tony. Their sacrifices were how we received this victory. Whatever it took.
I had offered to put the stones back, I was left behind on the time travel mission. I sent messages to everyone letting them know what we were doing. Surprisingly, no one else thought to inform the government that the half of our population we lost might suddenly just reappear. Yeah, I don't know how they could've survived without me either. Steve insisted it had to be him and no one fought him. We were all just so tired of fighting.
I fidgeted with the ring on my left hand, Steve proposed shortly before the blip, but after losing everyone... We never planned anything. Now that everyone was back, I hoped we could start.
"Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."
Bucky smiled at his best friend, "How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you."
Sam and I laughed at their inside joke, knowing full well they had enough stupidity between the two of them to share in excess. Steve nodded at Sam and stopped to kiss me. His lips gently brushed against mine then he pressed himself against me suddenly. His tongue sliding along my bottom lip, making me blush at the intimacy in public. He pulled away and smiled. "Don't miss me too much."
I shrugged and rolled my eyes, "I'm sure your two boys will keep me company the sixty seconds you're gone, Steve."
He walked towards the stand and nodded to Bruce. The new version of him was hard to get used to at first, but we could all tell Bruce finally felt comfortable with who he was now. It was nice to see.
"All right, 3... 2... 1... and out." We watched as the lights spun and Steve disappeared. "And coming back... 3... 2... 1..." we waited for the lights again. But there weren't any.
"Bruce?" I asked nervously. I looked towards Bucky and his face dropped.
"No, he didn't..." he whispered.
"Didn't what, Buck?" I turned to him. He opened his mouth to speak but the lights started. I let out a giant sigh of relief at my man coming back. Except he wasn't alone.
He was joined by a brunette woman in a green suit, hair curled with red lips. He had his arm around her and both of hers were around my fiancé's waist as she looked around shocked.
"Jesus, Christ Steve... you didn't." Sam was the first to speak. I looked closer and recognized the woman with him.
"Steven Grant Rodgers, tell me you did not bring Peggy fucking Carter back from the past?" I practically shouted at him. I took a step forward and Bucky grabbed my arm.
"Talia, let him explain."
"Get your fucking hands off me, Buck. He better have a damn good reason for this." I crossed my arms and waited for Steve, who had been uncharacteristically silent this entire time.
Steve cleared his throat as he pulled away from Peggy. "Peggy, you remember Bucky, that's Sam Wilson. Over there is Bruce Banner. And that is Talia Aimilios."
I continued I stare blankly as he spoke to her instead of me. Sam spoke next. "It's an honor, Miss Carter."
"Yeah, an absolute fucking delight." I rolled my eyes.
"She... does not seem to want me here, Steve..." Peggy stepped back and leaned closer to my man.
"It's uh, complicated, Peg. Talia is-"
