A Heart Break In Time

We're Going To Need A Really Big Brain.

I stepped out into the hallway and went back to my room to get my phone. I went to my contacts and tapped Peter's name.  

Hey! Fam dinner tonight, you busy? 🍕

"Friday? Can you order pizza for us? The usual?" I spoke aloud, waiting for Peter's response.

"Yes, Miss Aimilios."

My phone vibrated.

Yes! When?

"The pizza should be ready in thirty minutes." FRIDAY spoke again.

"Great, give Peter's name for pick up." I said while texting back.

Thirty minutes. Can you grab it on the way?

Got it!

Peter replied before I even had a chance to lock my phone. I smiled and put my phone in my pocket. I sat on my bed and put on the tv, watching an episode of a sitcom would distract me until dinner. As soon as Peggy mentioned Steve I felt... nervous. I don't know how to handle any of this. Peggy and Steve. Steve and me. Me and Bucky... and fucking Kai... I felt like my life had become a fucked up drama show.

I walked out of my room and ran into Clint in the hallway.

"Hey, kiddo. How are you feeling?"

I laughed. "Oh ya know. Barely holding my thoughts together. But dinner should be here soon."

Clint wrapped an arm around me as we walked to the kitchen. "Been a while since we had family dinner."

"Yeah. It'll be nice."

Clint and I pulled out the table extension that was built into the kitchen counter. We rarely used it because we didn't eat all together often. But today it seemed appropriate.

Clint went to get the plates and I grabbed paper towels and placed them around the table. Peter walked in with a stack of pizzas.

"Peter!"

"Hey guys! I brought the goods!" Peter smiled and carried the pizza to the table. You'd think I was used to super strength but seeing Peter carrying something heavy like a stack of pizzas still amazed me.

"Friday, can you let everyone know dinner is here?"

"Yes, Miss Aimilios."

I could faintly hear FRIDAY announcing it throughout the rest of the compound and the people started to come in. I sat down and Peter sat across from me. Bucky walked out, taking the seat to my left. "Hey, doll." He kissed my cheek before grabbing two slices.

Sam sat next to Peter. The rest of the group filled in, Steve and Peggy were last. Steve took the seat to my right and Peggy was to his right. Kai was directly across from Bucky.

"So," Kai patted his mouth after biting and chewing his slice of pizza. "Do you know who you're picking, Talia? You going to stay with Bucky or going back to Steve?"

Steve choked on his pizza and Bucky and I both glared at Kai.

"That's not your business, is it?" Bucky said calmly. "Since we know it's not you."

"Oh, I'm just curious." Kai shrugged.

I saw Peggy out of the corner of my eye and could only imagine how uncomfortable this felt for her. "Well don't be. I'd appreciate if you minded your own business. Thanks." I snapped at Kai before turning to Wanda. "How's it going with you and Steve?" I looked at Steve and offered a friendly smile.

"It's going well, honestly. Since he's aware, he's consciously helping me... put the pieces together would be a good way to describe it." Wanda smiled at Steve.

"I feel good, really. I feel like me. I even started drawing again." Steve said proudly, then hesitated. His voice got quieter as he continued. "I still remember everything that happened. I really need to talk to you about that. And you, Peggy." He turned to his other side. Peggy flinched. I'm sure Steve didn't miss it but he didn't say anything back.

"Yeah, uh. We can all talk after dinner." I offered and then turned to Bucky. "That's okay, right?"

Bucky didn't look at me, his eyes stayed on his plate. "Do whatever you need to do." I could tell he was trying to avoid letting his jealousy show, but I knew him. He was hurt. And I had no idea what the hell I was doing.
