"How do you like your coffee, Kai?" I ignored the awkward tension in the room and jumped off the counter to get mugs out.
"Black, how do you take yours?" He questioned.
Before I could answer, Bucky spoke for me. "A shit ton of sugar and a bit of cream." He smirked when I didn't answer. I poured coffee in three mugs, when I started to hand Kai his, Steve walked in. Bucky grabbed the mug I poured for Kai from me and handed it to Steve. "Morning sleepy head."
"Morning Buck. Thanks." Steve took a sip.
I grabbed another mug and poured coffee, this time handing the mug to Kai. "Thanks, sugar." Kai winked at me. Bucky rolled his eyes and Steve only chuckled.
"What were you doing on our couch, Steve? Don't you have a bed? In your own apartment? That isn't here?" I leaned on the opposite side of the counter from Steve and Kai.
Steve sipped his coffee more before answering me. "It was late. Didn't feel like driving all the way home just to be back here in the morning."
Just then, Sam and Angel walked in the room. Sam, as usual, with his arm around her. "Oh." He said as he looked around the room. "Yeah, this is the last place I wanna be." He pointed at all of us. "You all good?"
I rolled my eyes. "There's coffee. Help yourself, Angel." I smiled at her, ignoring Sam.
"Thanks." She smiled back. Where's Eva? I thought. Angel giggled. "Still sleeping."
Sam looked between the two of us and groaned. "Come on, please no secret conversations."
He's a party pooper, isn't he? Angel laughed. "Yeah, he sure is." Sam groaned again.
"I'll go wake Eva." I announced, wanting desperately to be anywhere but where I was. Angel picked up on that.
"I'll come with you." She kissed Sam's cheek before walking next to me.
I smiled at her. "You two are cozy."
She shrugged. "Things tend to move fast when you can literally hear every single thought someone has. Trust tends to come easier, too." She gave me a pointed look and I understood.
"That's how you, Kai, and Eva became so close too. And why they look to you first."
Angel nodded. "It's especially helpful with first impressions. I instantly knew that you truly didn't read about us, you wanted to know us. You weren't afraid of us. Everyone around you seemed more... hesitant."
"When you got here, you were glaring at Steve... was he thinking something bad?"
Angel didn't speak at first, it looked like she was thinning over what she wanted to say. "Not... bad. Jumbled. His thoughts were all over the place and loud. Typically that's what happens when someone is purposely trying to keep someone out of their head. It made me uneasy."
