I approached the outside of the Hex and heard Monica talking. "Uh... Wait, my controls aren't working. Reconnect patch." I heard the system beeping and I ran up to look.
"Disregard." Hayward. Great. "Take the shot." Wait, what?
Monica looked at him. "What? No. The drone isn't armed."
"Take the shot." Hayward repeated. There was a small explosion and the screen cut out.
"What did you do?" Monica and I both shouted, moving towards Hayward.
An unknown agent spoke first. "There's a breach, sir."
Alarms started blaring and people started scrambling. Monica, Jimmy, and I walked out together and there was Wanda talking to Hayward.
She held the drone. "Is this yours?" And she crushed it, throwing it to the ground.
"The missile was just a precaution. You can hardly blame us, Wanda."
"Oh, I think I can. This will be your only warning. Stay out of my home. You don't bother me. I won't bother you."
"I wish it could be that simple. You've taken an entire town hostage."
"Well, I'm not the one with the guns, Director."
"Wanda, you're the one in control here." I spoke and her head turned to me. Her body relaxed for a second and her eyes stopped glowing.
Until she saw Monica next to me. "You're with them." Her eyes glowed again.
"Wanda, I didn't know the drones were armed. But you know that, don't you? A town full of civilians. And you, a telepath, brought a S.W.O.R.D. Agent into your home. You trusted me to help deliver your babies. On some level, Wanda, you know I am an ally. I wanna help you." Monica tried reasoning with her.
"Wanda, come on. Let's go home." I added.
Wanda scoffed. "What home? How? What could you possibly have to offer me?"
My heart broke but Monica continued. "What do you want?"
"I have what I want and no one will ever take it from me again." Her eyes started to glow brighter as she held a ball of power in her hand, she turned, and all the guns around us pointed to Hayward.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Stand down!"
I yelled. "Wanda! Stop! This isn't you!" I tried to go after her but Monica held my arm.
"Stand down!" Hayward shouted and Wanda re entered the Hex. As she entered, the shield around it turned red and every soldier let down their gun as the mind control released. We all stared as the red static took over the Hex shield.
I failed.
I just wanted to bring her home.
Flashback
I looked around at the fighting and kicked one of the drones in the chest and heard Steve yell. "Thor! Status?"
"The girl tried to warp my mind. Take special care, I doubt a human could keep her at bay. Fortunately, I am..." Then he trailed off.
"Thor?" I spoke on the comms. "Are you okay? Steve?" I got no response so I went to find them. I saw Natasha on the floor and turned around, just getting a glimpse of Wanda before....
"Talia? Talia." I looked up and Natasha was there. Only... Younger.
"I don't want to be here..."
"I know." She wrapped her arms around me. "We'll get out of here. I promise."
Everything blurred and then I saw Natasha tied to a medical bed, screaming. A doctor turned to me. "This is your fault."
