A Heart Break In Time

You Ruined The Time Heist.

Everyone was already in the gym when I arrived. Sam and Angel were sitting on the ground while Kai and Peter talked. Eva was bench pressing a very annoyed looking Steve while Bucky and Rhodey were laughing hysterically. I stood smiling, watching everyone. Angel noticed me and walked over for a hug. I hugged her back. When I pulled away I clapped my hands. "All right, guys. We've got an add on for training today. Glad to have you, my little Peter."

"Talia, come on!" Sam yelled as he stood up.

I grinned. "Sam, Angel. You can take it outside. Stay on our property, don't need anyone freaking out about some UFOs." Angel giggled. "Steve, Eva. You're together today. Which, Eva." I gestured for her to come closer and when she did I whispered. "Go for his legs." She leaned away from me with a grin and a nod. "Buck, I'm gonna have you with Peter today. Just combat training. His reflexes are great, I think he could totally kick your ass, even without his abilities."

"I'd like to see that." Bucky scoffed.

"Rhodey, I want you with Kai. Kai, I want you to work on flying. You were shaky out there, Rhodey's got you if you get tired. But I want you to really push yourself."

"What are you gonna do, kid?" Rhodey asked me.

I smiled. "I'm gonna go finish my run that was interrupted. And then I'm gonna get us ready for a party." I blew a kiss to everyone before walking back out.

My run was as relaxing as I needed it to be. I really tried to not think of the strawberry incident but it hovered in the back of my mind. I hated it. I focused on the things for the party. We needed snacks, some alcohol for the grown ups, some soda for Peter. When I finished my run I grabbed a quick shower and threw my hair up in a wet bun. I took the keys to my Toyota and left.

After grabbing enough of what I thought we would need, I dropped the food and drinks off at the house before heading out to get a new dress and get some clothes for Peter. Luckily, Tony kept track of everyone's measurements, so I could just easily ask the store employee for what he needed. I went with a pair of navy blue dress pants and a light blue shirt for Peter, no tie. He hates ties.

For myself I picked out a black dress, with thin spaghetti straps, it was a bit tight but not overly sexy, aside from the slit on the right hand side. I tried it on and instantly fell in love. It was perfect. The associate was quick to help me find the perfect heels to go with it. As I modeled the whole look she smiled. "Oh, your boy is not going to know how to handle you tonight!" She grinned.

I laughed. "Well, it's boys, really. But thanks. I'll take it. And the men's clothes too. Can I tip with a card? You've been such an amazing help."

Her face lit up. "Yes, you can! I'll ring you up now."

The total came to $350.00 and she printed out the slip for me to sign. I quickly added $150 on her tip line, smiling as I remembered briefly when Tony told me "it's not really shopping unless you spend $500." I signed my name and handed her the paper and pen.

"Oh my goodness, thank you!" The look on her face was priceless.

"You're welcome, you made this so easy for me. Thank you!"

"Have a great day! Come back soon!"

I drove back to the compound one last time and everyone was sitting around the living room. I was shocked to see Kai and Bucky sitting next to each other again, talking. They both smiled at me when I walked in. "Hey everyone. I got clothes for you, Pete. I'll put them in the spare room for you. Anyone who wants to go out and get new clothes, I'll leave the card on the counter." I placed it on the counter before walking to my room to hang up my new dress.

I sat on my bed and opened Spotify to create a new playlist for everyone to add their own stuff to. This could be a nice way for everyone to bond, a night of shuffling all of our different music tastes. I titled it Party Time! And sent the collaborative link to everyone. Eva was the first to answer.

I giggled as everyone had a similar response, I watched as the playlist slowly filled up. I was already seeing a huge range in genres, and was shocked to see even Bucky was adding to it. Parties were always a sore subject, nobody except Tony was really into them. I don't know if everyone was suddenly in the mood as a way of honoring Tony, which honestly... that's exactly what he would have wanted.

I walked back out to the living room and the only people there were Rhodey and Bucky. Both in the chairs. I sat down in the middle of the couch and smiled at them. "Hello, boys. Everyone else out shopping?"

"Peter is in his room now, I think trying on what you bought him." Rhodey answered.

"Neither of you two need anything?"

Bucky was the one to answer. "Nope, I think we can get dressed up with what we got."

Just then Peter walked out wearing the outfit I bought him. "I don't know, is it weird on me? Oh, Miss Talia!" I stood up and turned towards him.

"Oh my goodness, Peter! You look so handsome! And grown up!" I felt myself start to tear up. He really seemed like he was so much older than he was when we first met. He had been through so much and I felt responsible for him. Morgan was my baby sister, and Peter was my little brother. He blushed at my reaction and I threw my arms around him.

"Thank you, this is nice." Peter hugged me back and for a while we just stood there. Peter was another reminder that it was worth whatever it took.
