Chapter 36

I turned around again to a different voice. Devin was standing in the grass with 3 other people next to him. My heart skipped a beat, and I tried to pull away from Logan. I couldn't move. His arm was frozen around me.

"Here, let me help you with that," Devin said, flames shooting from his hand.

"No!" Ryder yelled, running up to me. He tried to block the spell, but it had clipped his arm, burning his skin. I heard him yell out in pain.

"Ryder!" I cried. The ice on Logan's skin began to melt, and as his arm loosened, Ryder grabbed my hand and pulled me away with his unburned arm.

"Well, well, Ryder, I should've known you were going to show up." Devin said.

"Ryder, what's going on?" I asked. He looked at me.

"Logan's working with Devin." He replied angrily. I looked over at logan, who was still a little stiff. He was holding a rope.

No.

That's impossible.

Logan couldn't do this to me. Could he?

The ice melted the rest of the way, and Logan chuckled.

"Took you that long to figure out, Ryder?"

He glared at Logan, clutching his burned arm. "I had my suspicions."

Devin spoke up. "Annalise, didn't you wonder why Logan was there so quick when we mugged you? It was all an act. We set up the whole thing."

I looked at Logan, very upset. "Y-you?" I stuttered.

"That's right, never liked ya one bit."

A tear rolled down my cheek. I felt so betrayed. Why would he do this to me?

"Well anyways," Devin said. "Now that we got all that out of the way, I would suggest handing her over, Ryder."

"No," he replied. He turned to look at me. "Annalise, I need you to get out of here right now."

"But your arm-"

"Go!"

I turned around and ran up the staircase to the front doors, which slammed in my face.

"You're not going anywhere." Devin said. He raised his hand and shot sparks at me. I closed my eyes and raised my hands, bracing myself for the impact, but nothing came.

I peeked, and my hands were providing some sort of shield. Wait, I was doing it? In front of all these people?

Ryder threw a few spells at Devin's companions, knocking them out easily.

Devin attacked back, and Ryder quickly blocked them. He shot some sort of blue spark, and Devin flew about 10 feet back. He was still.

Ryder looked at Logan. "You." He marched up to him and threw him against the wall of the building. "I want you to leave. Now. Take Devin, and don't you dare come back." He growled.

Logan smirked and looked at me. "So does this mean our date's over, sweetheart?" He asked. Ryder pulled his arm back and punched Logan square in the jaw. Blood squirted out of his mouth, and he started coughing.

"I said leave. Now."

Logan nodded, then stumbled down the staircase and started dragging Devin into the woods, leaving the others laying in the grass.

It was silent for a moment until Ryder spoke up. "Go on up to your room. I'll send Daniel in a minute." He said, not looking at me. He was examining his burn.

"Here, let me see it." I said, walking over to him. I took his arm and held it up. The burn was bloody, and it did not look good.

"Ryder, I'm taking you to the hospital." I told him. He pulled his arm away.

"It's fine, I can handle it."

"It's really bad. I'm taking you." I said as I started pulling him towards the entrance. As we reached the doors, they opened, revealing Daniel, who was looking at us in shock.

"What happened?"
