Chapter 20
"Guys! Please stop!" I said nervously. "I can go to my room all by myself!"
Ryder laughed. "Says the girl who walked into the prison and the boiler room."
I frowned.
"Fine, we'll both go." Daniel said, trying to reach an agreement with Ryder.
"Fine, whatever floats your boat, Danny Boy!"
Daniel scowled at him. We threw our garbage away, and we started to head upstairs.
"So, you got a girl in mind?" Ryder asked Daniel, probably trying to get rid of the awkward silence.
Daniel ignored him for a minute. "Yes."
"Ooh, are you gonna ask her to the formal?"
"Yes."
"Solid. What about you, Annalise? Has anyone asked you yet?"
"No," I said. "But that's okay, it hasn't been very long since the headmaster gave the announcement."
He nodded. "That's a good attitude to have about it."
"Did you ask Katrina yet?" I asked him.
"You're taking Katrina?" Daniel asked, extremely annoyed.
"Yep, she's pretty hot. And no, I haven't asked her yet Annalise. So you still have time to win me over." He joked.
"Cut it out," Daniel warned.
"Eh, I'm good." Ryder replied.
"You both are so immature!" I yelled at them. "Can't you just be decent to each other for once?"
I turned around and ran down the flights of stairs, leaving the two boys probably shocked.
I ignored them as they called my name. I just kept going down until I reached the ground floor.
I looked around and saw the main entrance. I walked through the doors, wiping tears from my eyes. I had no idea where I was going, but I didn't really care.
I kept walking until I got to the lake. You know, the one where I had the incident. I stood on the dock and looked at the beautiful sunset. I took my shoes off and put them off to the side, and then I sat down on the edge of the dock, putting my feet in the water.
Why couldn't they just get along?
Daniel was my best friend. Ryder should know that it isn't going to change, and I'm not going to stop talking to Daniel just because Ryder doesn't like him.
But Daniel should know that Ryder needs to look after me by now. If he really cared about me, he would have accepted that.
Ugh.
I tried to push those thoughts out of my mind as I closed my eyes. The sound of the water moving was soothing, and it made me relax for a little bit.
That is, until I felt something grab onto my feet and pull me into the water.
