Chapter 8

As the first person walked up to the dock, our teacher explained what we needed to do.

"Imagine a disturbance in the water. Block out everything and concentrate on that. Your goal today is to create disturbances or waves in the water." He told us.

"Alright, Jake, let's see you do this." He told the boy by the lake.

Jake held his palms over the water and closed his eyes. Slowly, small waves formed underneath his hands. They raised a few inches, and then they fell back down.

"Good job, Mr. Adams! Miss Anderson, you're next."

I looked over to Daniel, who was further down the line, but someone else caught my eye. Ryder. He was smirking at me and gave me a wink.

Katrina walked up to the lake and held her hands over the water like the boy before did. A couple of seconds later, larger waves rolled into the shore. They were about a foot high.

"Good. And what's your name, young lady?" The teacher asked me. I looked down at my feet.

"Annalise."

He nodded. "Well, Annalise, could you create a disturbance in the water for me?" He asked. I walked onto the dock and stood at the edge. I heard laughing behind me.

"I heard she doesn't even have any powers."

"Does she even know how to use her magic?"

"I bet her waves will be a centimeter tall."

I tried to ignore the comments, but they were really bothering me. I tried to focus on forming a wave, but nothing came.

"Try again." My teacher said. I closed my eyes and tried to focus, but I was too nervous. Again, nothing came. I brought my hands down and started walking back down the dock.

"Wow, her mom must have been a terrible witch."

My head snapped to the direction of the voice. Katrina.

I froze, and I gave her the worst glare. All of a sudden, something came over me.

I turned around and stepped down the dock towards the lake again.

I threw my right hand into the air. Immediately, a large portion of water flew out of the lake and into the air. Next I did the same with my left hand. Again, the water flew about fifty feet into the air. Behind me, I heard a few screams from the other people in my class.

I twirled both of my hands in circles, allowing the water to create a large water tornado. As it swirled faster, more water attached to it. Eventually it was about 100 feet tall.

I clapped my hands together and held my hands as if I were holding a ball. The water immediately came together to form a sphere. I rolled it with my hands, allowing it to grow larger. More screams came from behind me, but I didn't care.

I stopped rolling the water and threw my hands into the air, which caused the water to stop midair. I flicked my fingers, and all the water fell back into the lake.

My powers were back!

I turned around and was surprised at the sight behind me. Everyone's were widened, and their faces were shocked. Many of the teachers and classes ran over to see what was going on.

Everyone saw the whole thing.
