Chapter 21

Cold water immediately covered my skin.

I screamed, but that only allowed water to invade my lungs. I looked down at the thing that was holding me and immediately saw large, purple eyes. I swallowed a ton of water and choked. It was beautiful.

The creature's skin was a pale blue color, and her hair was several feet long. I suddenly relaxed in the presence of her. She opened her mouth slowly, and what came out od her mouth was the most amazing and beautiful thing I have ever heard. It wasn't a song, exactly, but it was definitely music. Music without words. I instantly fell in love with the sound.

I was definitely out of air by now, and my lungs were screaming at me. But I didn't care because her song was enough to keep me happy for eternity.

I felt the creature tugging me towards the bottom of the lake, and by that time, I couldn't do anything but let it take me.

As we got closer to the bottom, I saw more creatures come out from beneath the rocks and seaweed, joining her in her song. The creature holding on to me pulled me to a bunch of seaweed and tied my feet together. Suddenly, I heard a large splash, which alerted the creatures.

My eyes could barely stay open, but I thought I saw Ryder with sparks shooting from his hands. He seemed to have something over his ears, and he avoided looking into the eyes of the beasts.

I made eye contact with him, and he had a worried expression on his face. Aw, did he actually care about me? How nice. He turned back towards the creatures and threw his hands forward, causing a bright blue flash to escape from his fingertips. It hit the creatures, and they were stunned for a little bit.

I saw Ryder grab something out of the pocket in his jacket, and he swam towards me. In his right hand, he was holding a bronze dagger that I had never seen before. Maybe he was coming over to cut me loose from the seaweed. He would have to get through me, first. There is no way I would let him take me away from the beautiful ceatures.

He grabbed onto my hand, which immediately made my heart race.

Oh my.

He looked at me once with an apologetic look, and then he took the dagger and sliced my hand open right there. I yelped in pain, which allowed more water into my lungs. I looked at him sadly. How could he betray me like that?

Then he grabbed the seaweed and chopped it off of my legs, allowing me to start floating to the surface.

"No!" I yelled, trying to grab onto a rock to prevent me from going to the surface. How could he make me leave the creatures? I needed to stay with them and their lovely music. Ryder swam over to the creature that was holding on to me earlier, and he took the dagger and stabbed her in the heart.

Immediately, there was a horrible shrieking sound, and I completely broke out of my trance. The faces of the creatures completely morphed into disgusting figures. Their teeth were sharp and pointy. They lunged at Ryder and I, but Ryder was quick enough. He  sliced through the creatures as I was losing conciousness.

My already drooped eyes began to shut. I let go of the rock I was clutching on to and felt myself slowly floating up. I looked down at Ryder, who was slicing the head off of a creature just before I finally shut my eyes.
