Chapter 30
"So dinner at Amanda's tomorrow?" Daniel asked, slightly confused.
"Yeah," I said. "Ryder told me he wants to keep an eye on me and Logan."
"Oh, that sounds good. I hear Ryder talk about him, and he seems like a jerk." He replied.
"He's not, Ryder is exaggerating." I told him.
"That doesn't surprise me."
We were sitting down in a little café in town, sipping hot chocolate that we had bought. "Do you like this guy?" He asked me. I set my mug down.
"Yes," I said shyly. "I really do."
"Then I'm happy."
I looked him deeply in the eyes. He seemed...sad.
"Really?" I asked, a blush forming on my cheeks.
"Yeah." He said, then changed the subject. "Let's go, we can hang out for a bit."
I got up and followed him out the door and to his car. The drive home was pretty quiet, and it was a little awkward.
When we reached the school, we both got out of the car and walked in. As we made our way up the staircase, Daniel bumped his hand lightly into mine, then tangled is fingers into my fingers. He was holding my hand. I smiled up at him, and he blushed. We stepped into his room, and we both sat on the couch and watched tv for awhile. Suddenly, he turned it off.
"Annalise," Daniel started.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Sure about what?"
"Logan."
"Oh. Yes, I'm sure"
"Okay," he said, standing up. "Did you get your bow yet?"
"Yeah, I picked it up after classes. It's in my room." I answered.
"Okay. I'm going to sleep. Are you crashing here tonight?"
"No, that's okay," I told him, walking to the door. "See you tomorrow?" I asked.
"Yeah, see you."
I closed the door behind me and stepped out into the hallway, taking a left. The hallway was silent, and it didn't seem like anyone was awake. I walked up the staircase and headed towards my own room. I was about to turn the corner, and then--
"HEY!"
I screamed and covered my face, orange sparks shooting out of my fingertips. They landed on the floor, leaving burns in the carpet, but they quickly extinguished. I looked up to see Ryder nearly dying of laughter.
"Stop it!" I cried. "You almost scared me to death!" Ryder continued to laugh and hold his stomach. I frowned and kicked him in the shin, which made him stop laughing immediately.
"Ouch! Dang, you really don't need me for lessons, do you?"
"It's not funny, Ryder."
"Actually, it is" He replied, chuckling a little bit. "You're cute when you're scared."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "I wasn't scared."
Lie.
"Ha, ummm, yes you were." He replied.
"Why would you do that?" I asked him.
"Well, I wasn't planning to. I actually came up here to visit you, but you weren't in your room. And then I was leaving, and I heard you coming, so I decided to scare you." He started laughing again.
"It's not funny!" I said, walking around him towards my room.
"Wait, wait, I'm sorry Annalise." He said, trying to keep the amusement out of his voice. "I actually need to talk to you about something."
"What?" I asked suspiciously. He looked around the hallway.
"Can we talk about it in your room?"
I thought about it for a moment. "Um, sure I guess."
We walked to my room, and I unlocked it for the both of us. I took my jacket off and hung it up in my closet.
"What do you need to talk about?" I asked.
He suddenly got a bit uncomfortable. He scratched his head and looked at the floor.
"Well, um, I kinda sorta need advice."
