The next two classes were pretty uneventful. Ryder and I sat in our transformation and conjuring classes while our teachers went on and on, showing us slideshows.

Of course, Ryder had to sit next to me in all of my classes. I could only sit next to Daniel in History of Magic and Attack and Defense. (A&D)

"How was your day?" Daniel asked me as we took our seats in A&D.

"Fine," I told him, not ready to share the incident in levitation just yet.

"Alright everyone, take your seats!" Professor Masters called out.

The rest of the students finished their conversations and went back to their seats.

"Okay everyone, today we are going to mock fight! Absolutely no powers today, guys. You need to learn how to defend yourself without them."

Half the class groaned, but not me. In fact, I was glad that we weren't using our powers. It would save me a lot of embarrassment. Daniel and I looked at each other, hoping we could be partners.

"I already paired each of you randomly with someone else, so as soon as I call your name, go find a mat and get to work."

Please don't pair me with Katrina.

"Penny and Sarah,"

Please don't pair me with Katrina.

"Derek and Kevin,"

Please don't pair me with Katrina.

"Katrina and Robert,"

Yes!

"Daniel and Ryder,"

Yikes, that could be trouble.

"Annalise and Devin,"

Oh. Shoot.

I stood up, shaking. Daniel and Ryder were both staring at me.

"How's it going, partner?"

I didn't answer. I turned around to see Devin with his arms crossed on his chest. I ignored him and walked to the mat, preparing myself for the worst.

"Are you ready?" He asked me. "Because you're about to get your butt kicked."
