Chapter 53
"Punch harder, Annalise" Ryder said as we were attempting to fight. Well, Ryder was mostly just standing there.
"No! I'm not going to hurt you!" I exclaimed.
"I'm a big boy, I'll get over it." He said, rolling his eyes.
I nodded, then hit him as hard as he could. He flinched, but it didn't do a ton of damage.
"That was your hardest?" I nodded, and he pointed to the floor. "Five push ups. Go." He said. I frowned, but went down to the floor, embarassed.
"Hey, so um, I don't really think I can do a push up." I said.
"Just try."
I propped myself up on my hands, and bent my elbows slightly. Immediately they gave out and I fell to the floor, right on my cheek.
I looked up, eye level with Ryder's feet. "How'd I do?" I asked.
"Do you even know how to do a proper push up?" He asked, laughing. I shook my head. "Watch," He got down on the floor next to me, and got in the push up position. Easily, he went down, then up. Down, then up. "Now you try."
I propped myself up on my hands and toes again and bent my elbows. Again, I fell flat on my face. Ryder started laughing.
"Here," he said, coming over to me. I got back into the push up position and he sat next to me with his legs under my body. "Your back should be flat," he said, putting his hand on my stomach. I flinched at his touch. "Sorry."
"It's fine."
He pushed my stomach up gently until it was higher. "Oops, too high," he said. "Your back and legs should be straight." He put his hand on my lower back and pushed down a little bit. "There we go."
"Ryder, I know I'm in the right position, but it doesn't mean I'm still strong enough to do it," I told him. He nodded.
"I'll hold you up, if that's okay." He said, putting his arms around my waist. "Okay, down."
I bent my elbows and went down, and he kept me up just enough for me to stop myself from collapsing. My body lightly touched his legs, and I pushed back up. I couldn't get very far, but Ryder pulled me up the rest of the way.
"Yeah, you're hitting the weights today," Ryder said, nodding towards a rack of dumbbells in the corner.
We walked over, and I picked up a pair. I started lifting, and Ryder grabbed a set of his own.
"So, are you getting excited to meet your knight in shining armor at the Masquerade?" He asked.
"Ugh, you know that's not the case," I said, rolling my eyes.
"What will you be wearing? I wanna see you there."
"I'm not telling you!" I exclaimed. Wait, did he just say he wanted to see me there? My heart fluttered a little.
"Can you at least tell me the color of your dress?" He asked.
"Nope."
He put the dumbells down. "Please?" He asked, giving me puppy dog eyes.
"No!"
"Please?"
"Ryder, no!"
He came over to me. "Pleeeeaase?"
I dropped my dumbells too. "N-O. NO."
"Come on," he said, poking me in the side. It tickled a lot, and I backed up.
"No, stop that."
"Please?" He asked, poking me again.
"Ryder, stop!" I yelled shoving him away. He stumbled back and looked shocked.
"Well at least I know how to train you now."
