Chapter 33

"So Annalise, how did you manage to find a date?" Katrina asked me. I glared at her across the table. "I mean, Logan must have been pretty desperate to ask you."

The table was silent for a minute. "Actually, I've wanted to ask out Annalise ever since she got here." Logan replied. My heart stopped. Really? Logan wanted to ask me out? Katrina rolled her eyes.

"Sure."

We were sitting at Amanda's, and we were waiting for our meals. The three men looked sharp in their tuxes, and Sarah was looking great in her beautiful green dress. Katrina wore a huge, poofy, sparkly pink dress that seemed to take up most of the table. Our waitress came by and served us our food, and Katrina began whining about everything again. "This food is soggy. Ryder, look at this lettuce! It's like they dumped a tub of water on it!" This time, it was me and Sarah who rolled our eyes.

"It looks fine." Ryder said.

"No, it's not!" She whined. Ryder sighed and waved his hand over her salad. Instantly, the moisture seemed to evaporate, leaving her salad in perfect condition. "Aww, Ryder, you're so sweet!" She giggled, kissing him on the cheek. Me, Sarah, Daniel, and Logan looked at each other. We all were getting fed up with her.

For the rest of the meal, we were mostly silent. The only sound was Katrina's constant nagging and whining. When we finished, the waitress brought us our bills. Logan paid for me, which was very sweet, and we left the restaurant to make our way back to school.

We walked along the street, making small talk, and suddenly I felt Logan's hand slip into mine. My heart fluttered, and I blushed. I gave him a small smile and stared at the ground nervously.

"Do you think it's going to be boring?" Daniel asked.

"Kind of. There's not a lot of good music that plays. It's mostly just ballroom dancing." Ryder replied. What? There's no way I can so that. I've never ballroom danced in my entire life.

"How fun." Daniel added silently.

We arrived through the front doors, and we waited in line to check in. When our group got to the front of the line, we saw Professor Brown.

"There you are!" She said, getting up from the table. She hugged me tightly. "You look so beautiful!"

"Thank you, Professor!"

"Any time. And Ryder! Look at you, you handsome guy!"

Ryder laughed. "Thanks."

She looked at us. "I'm so glad you two decided to go together!"

"What are you talking about?" Ryder asked. "Annalise isn't my date."

"What? But I thought you two would get together eventually..."

"I'm with Ryder!" Katrina interrupted. Professor Brown gave her a strange look.

"Well, anyways, I'll make sure you guys are checked in! Have fun tonight!"

We thanked her and stepped around the table. It was finally time to go in.
