Chapter 52

I definitely wasn't ready to hear my alarm the next morning, but I woke up and shut it off anyways. Sarah and I made plans to go shopping for dresses for the masquerade ball next weekend, but I wish we didn't have to go so early on a Saturday morning.

"Ugh," I groaned and got up from my bed. Thankfully, Ryder had thrown away the pizza box and shut off the TV last night after he put me to sleep. That jerk.

I took a shower, got ready, and headed down the stairs to meet Ryder and Sarah for breakfast. Ryder wasn't coming to shop with us, but he usually has breakfast with us every morning.

I sat next to the both of them after I retrieved my food, and I started peeling my orange. "Morning," I said.

"Good morning," Sarah replied. "Where's Daniel?"

Ryder stiffened and glanced at me.

"Who's Daniel?" I asked.

Sarah gave me a weird look. "Uh, Daniel Jenkins? Our friend?"

I shook my head, confused. "I'm sorry, I don't think I know a Daniel."

Sarah gave a confused look to Ryder.

"Daniel left last night." Ryder said. "He needed to go back home."

"Wait, is this all about that fight that Masters made you two do yesterday?" Sarah asked.

"Partially," he replied.

"So he's really gone?" Sarah asked sadly. I don't know who this Daniel guy was, but she must have been pretty close to him.

"Yeah. Sorry Sarah." Ryder responded.

"It's fine. But why are you acting so weird?" Sarah asked me.

"I'm not acting weird." I replied.

"I put a spell on her pizza last night. She doesn't remember him at all." He said. Sarah widened her eyes.

"You did what? Ryder, why would you do that?"

"Um, have you seen those two together?" Ryder said. "How do you think she would be handling it this morning if I didn't do that?"

Sarah relaxed. "I guess that's a good point."

"Wait, you put a spell on me last night?" I asked. "I thought we were just going to hang out for the night."

"I know. Sorry."

I frowned at him. "So are either of you going to explain who Daniel is?" I asked.

Neither of them answered.

"What, was he my boyfriend that broke up with me or something?" I asked. Both of them choked on their drinks.

"No way." Ryder said. "Absolutely not."

"Well then who is he?"

"No one."

"Let's stop in here," Sarah said. "We had good luck getting dresses here for the autumn formal."

"Alright," I replied as I walked into the store behind her.

"I can't believe Daniel is gone," She said as we looked through the racks. She looked at a yellow one and put it back. "I was going to ask him to this Masquerade Ball."

"I didn't think we were supposed to have dates for this kind of thing."

"Because of the anonymity? Everyone is going to know who everyone is anyways." She said confused.

"Really? I asked. Maybe I'm not very observant, but I wouldn't be able to tell who you were if you put on a mask."

"Gee, thanks" she said, laughing. "You just want to find a guy to sweep you off your feet that night, huh?"

"You know, I'm not even going to look." I replied. "This is a charity event for the school. It's not a time for me to find someone."

"Oh come on," She urged. "After Logan, maybe it's time to find someone else."

I frowned. I wish Ryder erased him from my memory. "I'm not talking about that."

"I know how you feel. But don't get so hung up on Ryder that you don't give anyone else a shot."

"What?" I asked, shocked. "I'm not hung up on Ryder."

"Honey please," She sighed. I see how you look at him.

"You mean like a normal person?"

"Uh, no."

I ignored her and Continued to look for a dress. Nope, nope, too short, too small... Finally! I pulled a long purple dress off of the rack. Definitely was going to try that one on. I went to the dressing room and stepped into the dress and zipped it up. Yep, definitely was going to get this one.

"How is your search coming?" I asked Sarah when I returned.

"Eh, none of theses are really me," She answered. "I might just wear my dress from the last time."

"That works," I told her.

We exited the shop after I paid for my dress and headed back to the school.
