('Holy shit!'... Billie thinks. He's known all about me and those other guys all along, but yet he's said nothing. Fuck!)

"David. I'm just trying to keep my private life private."

"Yea. Just not at nightclubs with guys closer to your age...got it."

"That's not what I meant! I meant...."

"Whatever, Billie."

(I start walking away, then stop.)"I'm sorry, Billie. You're right I suppose. I don't totally agree with it...but...." (Shrugs.)

"Part of being with someone famous, David. Please try to understand."

"I'll try, not saying I'm going to like it.... Billie?"

"Yes?"

"Remember when I told your therapist about you being with other guys didn't bother me?"

"Yes?"

"I lied."

"Then why haven't you ever told me that?"

"Life is full of sacrifices. I've been making them most of my life. Why stop now, you know?"

(I walk away. Billie stares after me. Wondering what the hell I meant by my last words. She contemplates chasing after me, but people with cellphones, start gathering near her parents' house. She goes back inside.)

(I make a call on my cellphone.)

"Hello?"

"Valerie? It's David. Sorry for bothering you."

"David? Is something wrong? You're still coming out to L.A....right?"

"Ah yea, about that. I'm in L.A. now myself."

"Why you in L.A. now for? Thought you were arriving in a few weeks?"

"I know. I came out here early, for someone. Listen, do you know any hotels near your house? I need a place to stay while I'm out here."

"You're not staying at no damn hotel. We got a guest house, you're staying there."

"I don't want to inconvenience you, Valerie."

"You're my friend. That's enough of an inconvenience."

"Ha ha. Very funny."

"How soon can you be here?"

"That depends how far Highland Park is away from you?"

"What are you doing in Highland Park?"

"Like I said. I was seeing someone."

"You have a way here? We're about 50 minutes away."

"Yea. Taxicab, I guess."

"I'll send a car for you. You owe me a full explanation, when you get here. Understood?"

"Valerie..."

"I mean it. See you soon."

"Okay."

(A car arrives an hour later.)

(I sit at a table gripping a coffee mug with both hands. I hadn't drunk any of it. I gripped it like my hands were ice cold, even though it was 86 degrees outside. I felt cold inside. That meeting with Billie's therapist was making me look at mine and Billie's relationship from a different point of view, and I didn't like what I saw.)

"David? I'm still waiting on an explanation as to why you're out here early?"

(Sighs)"I'm not sure myself anymore."

"So, who did you come out here to see?"

"You wouldn't believe me, if I told you."

"I'm going to keep asking until you tell me."

"I came out here, to spend time with...Billie Eilish."

"Yea, right. Haha, you wouldn't be dumb enough to get involved with a teenager."

(I sit staring at the coffee mug.)

"Oh my God. You're serious, aren't you? What the hell were you thinking?"

"I'm not sure anymore."

"Alright. I want the whole story.... now. Don't leave out any details."

(I tell Valerie the whole story. Starting with us meeting in Miami, and everything that had happened after that.)
