"Billie told me about Claudia's demands."
'Oh shit.' I think.
"I'm glad her and Finneas have worked things out. My son told us that the two of you talked."
(Shrugs)"I just gave him my opinion of things is all."
"I see. Have you and Billie set a wedding date yet?"
"No, not yet."
"Where are you and Billie planning to live?"
"She did say something about house hunting, when we came back from our vacation. We haven't looked yet. I got to admit.... California isn't exactly my first choice."
"Why not?"
"I'm from the east coast, as I'm sure Billie has told you. I was thinking of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Nice, quiet... acre upon acre of beautiful farmland."
"You're planning to take our only daughter across the country away from us?"
'Uh-Oh' I think.
"No, I don't think Billie would want that. We're going to decide this... together."
"But you just said you're planning to live on the east coast?"
"Yea, but not permanently. Maybe the east coast can be our vacation home, away from the paparazzi and stuff."
"Hmmm....good answer. You're passing the test so far."
"Mom! You out here giving another one of my boyfriends a shakedown?"(Billie says as she walks into the kitchen followed by Zoe.)
"It's a mother's obligation to make sure she knows exactly who her daughter is giving her heart too. In case it gets broken, by some other boyfriend next week."
"Mom!"
"Okay.... okay, I'll back off for now. It's your father's turn now anyway."
"Mom!"(Billie moans.)
(I cross my arms over my chest, as I give Billie a bemused look.)"What other boyfriends?"
"You see what you'll started! He's gonna be up my ass all day now!"
(I grin.)"That'd be interesting."
(Zoe laughs as Billie blushes red.)
"Zoe and I are taking Dragon out for a spin. You don't mind if we have 'girls only' time... do you?"
"Nah... go ahead. I got more music to put down anyway."
"Okay. We'll keep in touch?"
"Of course."
(I go to kiss Billie's lips. Instead, she quickly kisses my cheek. I make a face of dis-approval.)
"I love you."
"I love you too, beautiful. Try not to run over anybody... okay?"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well.... you usually drive up on the sidewalk. I mean the least you could do is be courteous and honk your hooters."
(Billie's Mom and Zoe laugh. Billie punches me.)
"Asshole."
"I love you too, munchkin."
(I arrive back at Valerie's house on my Harley Davidson and go into the 5150 studio.)
(Hours later, I'm still in the studio finishing some tracks. I add the songs.... Shake Me....Easy Come, Easy Go....I Need You....Shades of Gray....If.... You Don't have to Tell Me... and a song dedicated to my dog, called Until I see you again.)
(My cellphone vibrates. I glance at it in surprise.)
"You got a lot of nerve calling me, Claudia."
"I know... and I get why you're upset with me. Guess I acted like a complete bitch, by giving you that ultimatum."
"If you're calling to get my answer, it's no way in hell am I fucking you. Billie and I are in a good place now. I want to keep it there."
"Finneas and I are doing great as well. That's what I wanted to talk to you about. Can you meet me at the carousel in the park?"
