The next day, Hu Tao wasn't at school again. She had called Y/n saying she was sick and could not go to school.

Y/n spent the day with some of her other friends.
They learnt what they normally learnt. And they acted normal, even with the large ominous cloud above their heads.

Y/n, after school, was walking down the street on her way home and spotted a familiar white haired boy.

"Hey, Kazuha!" She ran up to him.

He rose his eyebrows, "to what do I owe the pleasure?"

Y/n tilted her head, "why are you in an alleyway?"

He huffed out a laugh, "Beidou is dumpster-diving for trinkets."

"But..." Y/n trailed off as she glanced at the large bins. A pair of slender legs and black stompy boots were sticking out. "Huh."

"We're actually pretty well-off. But Beidou does these things for the thrills... and pretty objects of course.... Heh... I could just give her you."

"What?"

A deeper voice chuckles, "don't worry, he's just flirting."

The woman was stocky and built like a brick wall.
She placed her hands on her hips and flicked dark hair over her shoulder- the dark hair that covered her left eye.

She stuck her hand out and held Y/n's s/c one in a firm shake.

"I'm Y/n."

"Well then, I am Beidou. Pleasure to meet you, my pretty." Beidou grinned.

"So, uh. What are you looking for?"

Kazuha started, "she-"

"Well, Kazu. I have found literal gold this time." She held up an ornament... it was a small golden bell on a ribbon.

Y/n's e/c eyes widened, "is that? Oh!"
"Can I hold it?"

Beidou handed over the trinket.

"Oh! It's Ganyu's little bell!" Y/n held it at eye-level.

Kazuha frowned, "she was the girl who disappeared right? Why would her bell be here?"

Y/n was literally sparkling with happiness, "she might be in this area!"

Beidou scratched the back of her neck, "I skipped school that day... what happened?"

The two younger students rushed to explain the events.

"Ohhhh... I see." Beidou tapped her chin, "I wonder why this started happening."
Then she looked at it closer, "if the events of a few days ago were true, there seems to be no blood... which would be peculiar considering the circumstances."

"What do we do with it, then?" Kazuha asked, torn between letting either nosy Y/n or Beidou have it or convincing them to hand it over to the police.

"Haha! Y/n's keeping it of course- a lovely memory of her departed friend."

"There wasn't a body!" Y/n blanched. "She might be still alive."

Beidou wiped dumpster-juice from her red jacket and grinned, "I admire your confidence. I'm never too brave unless I'm passionate. Good for you." She gave Y/n a thumbs-up, splattering the filthy goop everywhere.

Y/n shook out her school blazer and clutched the golden bell to her chest, "thank you!"
"I really-"

Then it began to pour.
The three got drenched as they ran down the alleyway to the covered area nearby.
The little plaza-like place was crowded with people staying out of the rain and others who were there to eat and shop.

Beidou shook out her drenched jacket and hair. "That is the worst timing."
Then she turned to the younger girl, "oh, Y/n? Do you want to come back with us? Are you alright walking home in the rain?"

"Uh, no thank you... do you live together?" Y/n shrugged.

"It's kind of like boarding... as long as we don't annoy each other too much- it's fine! And it also limits the cost for both of us!" Beidou shrugged too, "and I decided to help him out after he moved here."

Kazuha smiled, "are you sure you are okay walking through this heavy downpour?"

"Yes. Thank you."

They waved and walked away. Y/n was assuming they lived close by, since they offered to let her stay with them until the rain finished.
But... she had been in a lot worse- like the time she met Hu Tao, for instance.

Y/n wiped wet h/l h/c hair from her eyes and clutched the golden bell.
Hope swelled in her chest.
