Y/n hadn't been inside the school auditorium before, it was big... and big.

There was a large stage at the front and red curtains were draped across covering what was behind them.

Hu Tao told her it was for important assemblies and performances.
Then Y/n had asked to see and Hu Tao had led her back behind the stage.

It was crowded and Y/n glanced around looking for people she knew.

Yun Jin was standing in a corner warming up maybe? Her back was turned to the rest of them.
Xiao was clutching a flute.
Kazuha was sitting on a stool on the far side.

(I don't know why. But fan-fiction authors (at least the ones I read) commonly write Kazuha as playing the piano- maybe there's a reason?)

"Hu Tao!" A girl with braids in her hair wrapped Hu Tao in a hug.

"Oh, hey Venti. My friend here wanted to see the performers!" Hu Tao gestured to Y/n, "I didn't come here to watch you."

The girl fake-pouted before turning to grin at Y/n. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm Venti. And you are?"

"Y/n L/n."

"That's a pretty name!" Venti tugged on the cuffs of her blazer trying to straighten it after hugging Hu Tao.

Hu Tao smiled, "Venti is a really nice guy, I mean- he's literally just like me."

Crap. Y/n's eyebrows rose, "oh. So uh. You use 'he' and 'him' pronouns? And, you're a guy?"

"Haha, yes. Don't worry, I don't get offended by people assuming I am a girl." Venti laughed.
And... it was true. He looked like a girl, but a girl who was wearing pants.
He had dark braids hanging down the sides of his head, they were tipped with aquamarine- his eyes were the same shade. He also had one of those innocent pixie-looking faces with chubby cheeks.
So... very feminine.

Then Venti turned to Hu Tao, "so. You're not performing?"

Hu Tao chuckled and tilted her head questioning, "remember what happened last year?"

"Ah, yes. The teacher who was monitoring had to literally drag you off the stage."

"Well, technically it was all of their faults for not letting me finish my performance. That's why I didn't want to leave... you know, 'if you start something, you have to finish it?'" Hu Tao frowned, "that's why I'm not gonna bother."

There was guitar music playing the background of their conversation and Y/n turned in the approximate direction that it was coming from.

There was a tanned girl dancing around with a heavy-looking guitar in her arms, the dark pigtails on top of her head bobbing along with her movements.
She strummed the cords and began to riff, the sound deafening.

Hu Tao gestured at her, "that is one of the more successful musicians in our school- Xinyan, she loves to play rock music. And apparently, she's known the new girl from our class for years."

"Oh. Yun Jin?"

"Yeah yeah. She really appreciates rock music, does she not?" Hu Tao nudged her chin on Xinyan's direction again.

"Oh, I see."

One of the theatre teacher looked in their direction, "are you girls in an act?"

"Nope!" Hu Yao guided Y/n out from behind the stage and back to the chairs.
