Chapter 1- Standing in the Rain

Y/n tilted her head upwards as it started to pour. Rain pattered down onto her face catching in her eyelashes and running down her cheeks.
The rumble of thunder could be heard from afar, and she tugged her black coat tighter around her body, pulling the hood up, shivering.
'I should really head home now.' She thought, gazing up into the cloudy sky.
She had been standing at the bus stop- but of course, it was late and she was forced to stand in the rain.
Y/n contemplated on walking home, but she would get even more drenched. She stepped under a tree, in which the canopy did not offer much protection at all.

She suddenly felt the rain stop dripping onto her face, as something warm brushed against her side- warmth in that cold area... she stepped closer and received a chuckle.

A brunette girl with enormous red eyes stared at her as she held the umbrella overhead, "ehe~ what kind of fool, stands outside in this weather?"

"The bus is late," Y/n grit her teeth. A few more minutes until the bus would- hopefully- turn up.

The girl smiled, "I'm catching the bus too, but I'm not silly enough to leave home without an umbrella!" She giggled again, much to Y/n's annoyance.

They stood side-by-side, before the pretty girl spoke up again, "I've seen you somewhere... school maybe? Or work at the funeral parlour? Uhh..."

"I don't have a job, I moved to this city last week. But maybe you go to school with me? I mean, you certainly look the age of a fellow student. Well, I go to the stuck-up prissy school, Teyvat High. Hah... even the name sounds stupid."

The girl tilted her head, "I go there too! What classes do you take?"

"None, yet. I'm coming for my first day on Monday. But I think you remember me from my tour of the grounds," Y/n couldn't help but smile at the girl with the crimson umbrella, maybe Y/n would have a fast friend when she got to school.

"Well, I'm Hu Tao! I am the heir of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlour! I'll give you a discount for when you die, if you want," the girl- Hu Tao stuck her hand out for a shake.

"Just call me Y/n, thanks for shielding me from the rain. I'm grateful," Y/n accepted the handshake and Hu Tao shook it vigorously.

"Pleasure doing business with you Y/n!"

The bus rounded the corner, and splashed water all over the two girls, they ground their teeth sharing a look of dismay before getting onto the bus.

Y/n waved goodbye to her new friend and hopped off the bus, waving at the brunette girl in the back seat, "byeeeeee!"

Hu Tao waved back, excitedly, "see you at school!"

Y/n stood on the porch of her house and pulled out house keys, before unlocking the door and opening it.
Her mother was cooking dinner, and her father had his laptop on his lap as he slumped on the couch.

Y/n's father beckoned her over, "Y/n! Do you want to wear a skirt or pants at school. Isn't that great? Girls get options!"

She stared at the screen for a bit, "those pants look real masculine. I don't think they will suit me."

"The pleated skirt it is!"

Her mother wandered over from the stoved, gazing at her coat, "Y/n! Why are you so soaked, I thought we told you to stay out of the rain!"

"I tried! And to make it worse, the bus was ten minutes late!" Y/n then put her hands on her hips grinning, "at least I made a new friend for school! She had an umbrella!"

"That's nice. Now clean up. You don't want the floorboards getting mouldy from the amount of water dripping from you body onto them," her mother playfully shooed her up towards her bedroom.

Y/n climbed the stairs, think about her lovely red-eyed friend from the bus stop.
'Thank you.'

(Note: IDK why I called it Celestia Academy- I know people who keep making references to Celestia in Genshin but I don't know- when later (in my drafts) it's called Teyvat High and Teyvat Academy- please don't mix them up.)
