Y/n had become comfortable at her school, for the few months that she was there. She had found comfort in the strange boy, Bennett and the goth, Fischl.
He was accident prone, and she was extremely sophisticated- polar opposites.
They were brave, those two. Fighting off drunks on the street and voicing their opinions.
Y/n smiled as she thought about the duo. Lovely people.

Aether hopped down from the brick ledge near the school fence, "do you want to go somewhere with me after school?"

Y/n shook her head, "sorry, another time. I'm going to the park with Fischl and Bennett. Do you want to come?"

"No, I can't put up with Fischl," he waved at her and wandered away.

As soon as he left, Bennett and Fischl turned up, grinning. Bennett smiled at Y/n, "let's go!"

At the park, the trio sat on the bench on the stone bridge overlooking the little duck pond. They tossed breadcrumbs to the eager white ducks.

Fischl was gazing at a mother and her children, "so precious..." She immediately thought of Oz- her beloved night raven companion.

Bennett hopped towards the edge and bent over to look. A little to fast...
He toppled into the water, splashing his female companions, "ahhhh!"

They spent the afternoon on the swings and loitering, talking about their days.
She hugged them- her normal goodbye to the duo- and left to go home.

The next day at school, Y/n sat in the hallway with Xiao. She didn't mind that other students made remarks on her strange companions, (Xiao, Fischl, Hu Tao, Kazuha...)
They sat in comfortable silence, nothing to be said between them.
The bell rang and they stepped into the classroom, taking their respective seats on opposite sides.

Hu Tao dumped her books on the desk, loudly- a common dramatic entrance for the girl. Ganyu slumped into the seat on her other side.

The teacher marked the role, and they were sent off again to seperate rooms.

Hu Tao pressed her lips together as she followed Ganyu down the hall, dodging other careless students.
She cracked her neck and prepared for another hour of being seated in an uncomfortable chair.

Aether and Lumine headed to Math with Y/n.
Lumine noticed how her brother gazed at their friend, and casually dropped hints- which the dense girl didn't get.

Xiao watched the trio pass him the the hallway, his heart pounding. Y/n was beautiful and exceptional- in his mind at least.
He watched after them but was knocked forwards as a dorky looking girl crashed into him.

"Ah! I'm late!" She huffed brushing out her fluorescent green hair, then, "sorry!"

"It's okay. I wasn't looking..."

"Oh! Have you seen Albedo? I need to find him!"

He shook his head, then the girl's eye caught on something else.

Fischl walked down the hallway.
A clinking sound could be heard from behind her.
She made eye-contact with a scared-looking green-haired girl who took a step back.

A cry of pain.

Y/n, Aether and Lumine spun around and ran to where it was.
Blood. There were chunks of flesh on the floor, blasted through with screws and nails. Gunpowder littered the tiles.
Standing near the body. Xiao and Sucrose.
Both of them looking shocked and drenched through with crimson.
A scream, a different voice this time. Not Fischl's.
A brunette with a large red bow in her hair, stood with her fist in her mouth, scared.

Aether glanced at Sucrose who was standing closest to the corpse? He wasn't sure if Fischl was dead. "What happened?"

Sucrose was shaking, her hands on her elbows. Her lip wobbled, "I... don't know. I'M SORRY!"

Y/n clutched the short girl's shoulders to calm her down. She glanced down at Xiao too, who knew just as much as Sucrose, apparently.
Sucrose began to cry and Y/n hugged her tight, not caring about the transfer of her friends blood onto her uniform.

A middle-aged teacher stormed down the hallway, livid. "What in the world has happened now?!"

Everyone lowered their head as the crowd parted so she could push through, "what?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone was sent home early.
Bennett wandered down the side of the building, alone. Without Fischl, he had no one but the lovely Y/n.
Someone was watching, holding a wire and a hook, one end attached to the overhang of the roof.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next day, everyone went to class, attempting to forget about the incident.

Kazuha ate lunch along at the side of the building. So when class was over, he slung his satchel over his shoulder and wandered off to be alone.
He came face-to-face with a horrific sight.

He barely controlled his gag reflex as he took a closer look.
Bennett, from the year below him.
The boy was strung up from the roof, a hook through is neck, a metal wire wrapped around his body, keeping him suspended. There were cuts all over his body, presumably from the bondage. And stab wounds in his ankles... had he tried to flee?
His eyes were closed, his hair, matted with dried blood.
Flies were beginning to be attracted to a food source.

Kazuha wondered how long he had been there for... a day? Longer?
He ran off to find help.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When another death was reported, no one was surprised- honestly.
But, they were still horrified. Nobody felt safe anymore.
Something- someone... was offing their peers.
(First deaths!)
