The next day, after Barbara's lifeless corpse was taken away to be prepared for her funeral- Jean was devastated, yet she still attended school.
She spent most of the day sulking and eventually, her friend Diluc asked the staff if she could go home.
The teachers insisted on sending her home so Diluc walked with her to her little green car and watched as she sat down in the driver's seat.

"You didn't have to do that for me, you know." She sighed.

"It's a hard time for you. I know how it feels to lose someone you love- take some time off Jean. I'll look after the council."

She closed the car door, but it was stopped by his foot. "Don't speed Jean. You are known for speeding when you are not in your right mind."

She snorted, "why would I do that?" Then slammed the door, waving at him.

She started the little engine and it sputtered before starting, she was about to drive off when Diluc slammed his hands down on the hood of her car- stopping her from driving away.

"What in the hells? What do you think you are doing? That's dangerous!"

"Don't speed. "

"I already told you I won't. Leave!"
She sped off.

Diluc sighed, knowing that one day she was going to be in an accident, and wandered back inside the school.

Student council and a meeting. Someone had to stand in for Jean.

Ningguang stuck her hand up, "I volunteer!"

The rest of them nodded and it was decided.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/n was perched down the side of the school by herself, thinking.
'Barbara had been right... my friends are being hurt... what, why?'
"Hey? Are you okay?" Kazuha stood above her.
"Y-yeah? I'm fine..." she looked away, "am I the reason people are getting hurt?"
Kazuha tilted his head before sitting beside her, "what happened?"
"Barbara told me that it was my friends who were dying or disappearing. And now she is dead... why...?"
He frowned and lowered his eyelashes, thinking. Then, "I... don't think it is your fault. It is the person who is responsible that has to bear the weight and guilt of the deaths on their shoulders."
Y/n nodded, sullen. "I guess you're right. Thank you, Kazuha."
He smiled at her before standing up and offering his hand to her.
The pair walked back inside, where the corridors were flooded with students.
"Huh... I guess all the gossip is about Barbara today..." Y/n sighed when she heard the conversations.
He frowned slightly, "that... is a normal reaction for something of this scale."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When the break between classes was over, Y/n ran to Math.

She sat at the front of the classroom and she could feel the gazes of her fellow students burning into her back.

Keqing was twirling a strand of purple hair around her finger, intrigued with the new mystery.
She didn't want to think about the lesson- only the danger.
And, faint ideas sank into her head eventually and she grinned- this would make a great true crime story if it continued on this scale.

Most of the class were sleeping through the lesson and the teacher let it slip for some unknown reason.

Lumine leaned over to Y/n and tapped her shoulder, "what happened? Why are you so sullen- usually you're very cheerful."

Y/n groaned, "it's depressing. My heart hurts."

Lumine frowned too, "I don't understand?"

"Barbara was murdered yesterday. I watched her being wheeled away in a bodybag." Y/n put her head on the desk.

"Oh... I'm sorry," she smiled bitterly, "it must be hard for Jean too."

"She left early today."

"I can see the logic behind that- giving her time to grieve." Lumine stared blankly at her textbook.

"Ah... why are my friends so nice?"

At that, Lumine laughed. "Haha, Y/n. No problem."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After class, there was a large group of students crowded in the courtyard.
Lumine and Y/n went to look.
Lumine breathed, "oh gods."
There was a fight... again.
Scaramouche vs Childe- was what Y/n could see.
Lumine muttered, "he's so full of himself," then walked to the front and began to heckle them.
Y/n followed.
They were wrestling- Childe's hands on Scaramouche's upper arms and Scara had his shoe pressed into Childe's stomach.
They scrabbled for a while longer then Childe landed a good punch to Scaramouche' jaw. There was a crack and his head snapped back.
He had a hand pressed against his mouth.
"Come at me, wussy!" Childe laughed at the smaller boy and Scara growled.
Y/n looked worriedly at Lumine, "should we intervene?"
"No. If we do and these two are caught, we'll get dragged into it too."
"But- they'll go hurt themselves!"
Lumine sighed and didn't answer.
"This happens regularly right? Everyone's so calm." Y/n frowned.
She shut her eyes and could still hear them hitting each other.
'I'm intervening...' was her thought as she opened her eyes and grabbed Scaramouche. (The smaller boy was easier to stop.)
She ended up getting and elbow in the face.
His eyes widened when he saw he elbowed an onlooker- (Namely Y/n.)
Childe's eyes widened too.
"Goodness! Why are you fighting?" She crossed her arms over her chest and brushed her h/c hair back from her face.
They glanced at one another, ashamed.
Then Childe piped up, "well I clearly won."
And then he strode away.
"Uh. Are you okay?" Y/n reached for Scara and he flinched away.
"I'm fine. Now bug off." His face reddened and Y/n backed away from the grumpy boy.
She stood next to Lumine as the crowd dispatched.
Lumine grinned, "he looked soooo embarrassed that you were paying him attention."
She giggled, "you have to do that more often, it's hilarious."
Y/n frowned.
"Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
Y/n cut her off, "I'm fine..."
Though... it was more like reassuring herself.
