The principal had been replaced by a floating child called Paimon- who strangely spoke mostly in third person.

That same day, Ganyu had been removed from the intensive-care ward and been moved into the same one as Kokomi and Mona.

Classes went on as normal- though Paimon went around to every room introducing herself.

She was definitely not a principal.

She chattered away to the class while Y/n spaced out.
She glanced at Lumine behind her who was smirking- the blonde wiggled her fingers.

Since Paimon had arrived near the end of class, when the bell went everyone scrabbled their belongings together and rushed out the door- per the teacher's instructions- this teacher, in fact didn't like their 'principal.'

Aether followed after Y/n when seeing her leave the class she was in, "uh. Y/n could I speak to you in the library at lunchtime... I promise it won't take long!"

Y/n nodded and gave him one of her dazzling signature smiles before she spotted Childe swiftly walking past and followed him to their next class.
Aether went the opposite direction.

To Y/n and Aether both, the time couldn't pass so quickly.

But Y/n had a strange feeling in her stomach, so she tried to redirect her attention to somewhere else- in fact her home economics demonstration.
She was at the back and couldn't see over the head of the other students due to the tallest ones strangely sitting near the front.
Since they would be cooking next lesson, she wrote notes on what the teacher was saying and hoped that Childe could better understand the recipe.

Then the bell went for lunch and everyone was dismissed.

She walked quickly down the stairs and to the library and spotted Aether- his back turned to her.

She huffed, "so you beat me."

"The home ec classes are on the floor above, my class was closer. Ah, I'm sorry if it inconvenienced you." He rubbed the back of his neck.

"That's fine."

He wet his lips with his tongue and looked away, "so. You know when we went out-"

"Eh? Of course I remember that! I've haven't been on a date since I was... really far away, two towns before here."

"Oh."

"Yeah. My parents keep having to change jobs or get moved to another area for a job."

"So. You, didn't like going out with me?"

"Uh, no!" Y/n waved her hands in front of her face, "it was just cut short and I didn't remember to follow up."

"So uh. You do want to continue?" Aether smiled.

"Of course."

Aether then stepped closer to her, resting his elbow on the wall above her head in the classic 'Romeo Pose.'
(Though... Y/n was slightly taller than him, the height difference was made up by her leaning backwards and not standing straight upright.)

"Uh. What are you-"

She cut herself off when she felt his nose brush her cheek tenderly.
Reddening, Y/n tilted her face to the side to see what he was doing... wait was he smelling her or something?

Aether pressed soft lips against her jawline and his hands moved to grip her waist.

Her heartbeat was erratic inside her rib cage, butterflies swarmed in her stomach like little baby piranhas, tugging on her lungs... simply, she was already breathless and they hadn't kissed... yet?
She was too stunned to move, she didn't think Aether wanted to resolve to physical contact and she doubted she was ready... though she felt safe around the blonde boy.

Her body relaxed as he glanced down at her lips and leaned towards even further, his breath fanning over her lips.

Y/n's e/c eyes widened as he closed his golden-yellow ones and craned his head towards her-

"What in the hells are you doing?"

Why...

There were few people other than teachers who she would have minded walking in on them, one of those few people she did not want to see was standing at the edge of a book case, a thick tome-like book under his arm.
His mouth was agape.

Aether frowned then tried to lighten the mood, "well, hello my little emo."

Y/n glanced downwards and realised his arms were around her waist still, so she gently brushed them off.
The pair stood up straight.

Xiao wasn't impressed, Y/n could see his lips pursed into a thin line. "Mind explaining?"

Aether and Y/n shot each other shocked looks before Aether spoke up, "we were just having a private talk."
He emphasised private and implied that Xiao should leave.

Y/n smiled awkwardly then it faltered, "uh... oh gods... this is the worst."

"Mind turning a blind-eye?" Aether piped up from beside her, the question directed to the smaller dark-teal haired boy.

"You should not-" Xiao then stopped himself, clenching a fist and biting down on it.
He though for a moment. "What would happen if somebody saw?"

"You did."

"... other than me."

"Well... ahah, we were just leaving. Bye Xiao." Aether forced a smile.

Y/n let the blonde take her hand lightly and guide her away from Xiao, who still has his brow furrowed as if concentrating.
She would have to explain to him later- Aether hadn't worded it right, as if they were actually doing something.

Outside the library, Y/n parted ways with Aether, who continued to say 'sorry' even though partially it wasn't his fault.

She walked down the hall back to her friends.

Hu Tao grinned, "where were you Y/n? Hmm..."

"I was just speaking to someone."

"Oh? This is intriguing..." Hu Tao tilted her head and grinned devilishly.

Y/n put her head in her hands as her mind flew over the events of only a few minutes.
Why... 'why did I react like that?'
She felt heat rush to her cheeks again.
'Why couldn't I stand up and explain myself after Xiao saw us?'

'Why can't I think properly?'
