I've been writing a zombie apocalyse AU for fun + preview for a long time away

Well, I wondered whether I should publish it but.... I'll wait for a while.
Zombie apocalypse AUs have so much potential, and they're fun to write.
This one is a female reader.

(I'm taking this down when the next chapter drops, because I've got a teeny writers' block and I want to still entertain my readers.)

And here is a short preview of part of the first chapter. I might add the second too.

Y/n leaned back in the chair. She had recently boarded a plane to fly across the world to another continent- Teyvat.
It was quite a large continent, seven countries- one of which was actually a multitude of little islands branching off from the mainland.
Y/n attempted to calm her siblings down, she regretted taking them with her on her work trip- her parents were too busy to look after them.
She had a new lead on a breaking story and she wanted to be the first to document it.

Y/n reached over her brother's lap to hand her younger sister a packet of peanuts to calm her down.

Her brother clamped his hands over his ears and whined, "Y/nnnnnn... I hate planes."

She rolled her eyes, "we'll be there soon, and I'll buy you something nice when we get off."

Her sister pouted, "what if we crash?"

"Pfft... of course we won't, and even then we'll be fine... I think." Y/n shook her head and looked out the window, at the land far down below.

A flight attendant glanced at them, "anything from the cart?"

Y/n groaned as the plane lurched, "no, thank you."

The siblings slept the rest of the flight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/n and her brother and sister departed, she glanced at the surroundings.
"Whoa! Where are we N/n?" Her little sister was bouncing around. "This place is so pretty!"
Y/n read the sign, "We are in Liyue Harbour at the airport."
She sighed and gave up on navigating, "let's find somebody to help us."
They passed a shop with televisions in the windows, there was a small crowd clustered around them.
"What's a mental hospital?" Y/n's little sister's eyes widened slightly as she looked at the screen.
"A hospital for people mental disorders." Y/n sighed.
"Why did they break out? Aren't hospitals nice?"
The story; a small amount of patients just walked out of the mental hospital and headed for the rural areas, one loon declaring that they should leave 'before it is too late.'
So they ran off, and the hospital trusting them- didn't retrieve them before they fled.
Y/n shook her head at the television, the place was trying to help them. Why make it harder?
But... the real reason why she was in Teyvat... she had a great story on some drama happening in Inazuma.
So she planned on staying overnight in Liyue at a hotel then boarding a ship to the little branched-off group of islands.
"Hmmm... let's ask... her!" Y/n wandered up to a young woman.
Salmon hair fluttered around her face as she turned to the h/c haired girl, "can I help you?"
"Do you know where the closest hotel is?"
"Uh. I'm so incredibly sorry, but that isn't the best place to be right now."
"Excuse me?" Y/n admitted she was confused.
"Uhh... you might as well leave before the boarders close. Go home." She twists a strand of hair around her slender finger nervously.
"Well. Miss, I have a breaking story in Inazuma! I need to get there too!"
"You can't. You can fly into Teyvat, but can't travel between countries... uhh, they're closed off. To keep us safe."
"Safe. From. What?" Y/n felt her impatience setting in as she leaned closer to the girl.
"There's something happening in Sumeru. A wide-spreading flu."
"Ah. That is why."
Then it dawned on her. "So I'm stuck here?"
Her siblings bounded up, "hi nice lady!"
The girl tilted her head and whispered into Y/n's ear, "you may want to keep them in the dark about this. I'm in legal service so I know, but not many people do. Don't tell anyone. It may cause mass panic. Protect your siblings from it."
"Yes. I will do."
The girl smiled ruefully and trudged away through the crowds, her black one-inch heels clacking on the cement.
"Okay. You two, let's find a nice place to stay nearby." Y/n declared to her siblings' delight.
"Eeee! We don't have to go on a boat!"
Y/n smiled, the corner of her mouth lifting up. "Scared of water too?"
Her brother puffed out his chest obnoxiously, "of course not! I'm protecting you and sis!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Once settled into their room, Y/n booked a flight back home.

There were only two seats- she decided to send her siblings back to their parents, to keep them away from the sickness.
She sighed, wishing she could go back too. But, she would have to wait- an extra night in Liyue wouldn't hurt right?

Her brother and sister were curled up under the covers on the second bed- they were small, so it was easier to just book a room with two beds.
Y/n pulled up the covers of the bed she was sleeping in and began to drift off.

And the next morning- after packing their bags and stepping onto the streets, she said to her siblings, "time to leave. I'll walk to to the airport, it's close by. And the flight attendant ladies will look after you."

Her sister's lip wobbled, "you're not coming with us?" The th sound in with came out as a hiss and made Y/n smile.

"I'll be home in a few days, I just wanted you to be safe- plus there weren't any more seats." Y/n said matter-of-factly.

"Aww!" The two children both chorused at their older sister and Y/n groaned.

They walked in silence until they reached their destination.

"Ugh. I hate goodbyes. Make it quick." Y/n swiftly hugged her siblings as a flight attendant turned up to take them off her hands.

They boarded the plane as Y/n waved sadly at them.

Of course- this was the best course of action as a few more nights in Liyue won't matter, right?
