Chapter 35- Pre-funerary Practises

Y/n planned on walking to school with Hu Tao.
So she showed up at the Funeral Parlour and knocked on the door.

It seemed that the bottom areas were the parlour and the top were Hu Tao and her grandfather's living areas- since it was a commercial building, it was fine with space.

Opening the door was... "Zhongli?" Y/n had to admit she was surprised to see the older boy.

"Good morning to you too Y/n... Hu Tao's grandfather is on break, travelling around. I am her assistant as of this moment."

"What do the 'assistants' do?"

"Currently, cleaning up her mess."
He opened the door wider for Y/n to step inside.

The dark haired boy was holding a plastic bag in one hand, it was stuffed full of paper and other materials.

Y/n pointed upwards, "Is Hu Tao's room upstairs?"

He nodded and continued to pick up scraps of plastic from under cabinets.

Y/n walked up the stairs, "Hu Tao~"

Hu Tao was curled up on her bed in a thin red t-shirt.

Y/n tugged the blankets off her and the other girl's eyes opened, "huh?"

"I'm walking to school today with you and don't want to be late." Y/n smiled.

Hu Tao grumbled something and dragged herself up before opening her closet and pulling out her uniform and locking herself in the bathroom.

She came out ten minutes later all ready to leave and skipped down the stairs.

She grinned when she reached the bottom, "this is way tidier than yesterday!" She glanced at Zhongli who was sitting on one of benches in the waiting room.

"What happened yesterday?" Y/n cocked her head.

"The detective in me came out... and I had some overdue work." Hu Tao shrugged.

Zhongli chuckled, "that- and her usual mess."

Hu Tao went over yanked on his ombré ponytail, "I'm. Not. Messy."
She released his head and said, "Y/n doesn't want to be late to school so we should get going."

Hu Tao locked the door behind them and they walked to school, Zhongli trailing a metre-or-so behind the girls.

Hu Tao skipped along, her backpack bouncing on her back.

Hu Tao was humming and going over the events of the past few weeks.

Then she turned to Y/n, "oh. Did you ever go on that date with Aether?"

Y/n frowned, "it was cut short though."

"That is why, you go up to him and ask him on a second."

"Why are you so concerned about my love life?"

Hu Tao ignored her, "oh. And did you get time to see Ganyu in the hospital?"

"Yes."

Hu Tao continued babbling on their way to school, Zhongli occasionally joined their conversation, seemingly knowing much about Hu Tao's misadventures.
(Like getting on the bad side of the police.)

They arrived at the school gates to see a cluster of students around the side area near the primary school.

Y/n could see the back of someone's head as they held a girl's body- Mona?

Her long pigtails were draped over his arms and legs, her neck lolled to the side, resting across one hand. The girl's eyes were closed and she breathed shallowly.

After getting close- Hu Tao and Zhongli trailing her, Y/n noticed that the guy holding Mona was Albedo.

His hand was pressed to her abdomen, staunching the flow of blood from a wound in her stomach.

Zhongli grimaced, "again?"

Hu Tao cocked her head to the side quizzically, "maybe she won't die- Ganyu didn't...?"

Albedo held Mona over his lap, her back rested on his knees. His phone was on his shoulder, his neck craned to the side as he hurriedly talked to somebody on the other line.
Near them, Kokomi sat on the ground, dazed. Her back was pressed against the brick wall to the primary school, a wound on her head was bleeding down the side of her face, neck and pooling on the shoulder of her school blazer.

Hu Tao leaned closer, "oh. This is juicy, Kokomi too? What happened?"

Zhongli sighed from behind Y/n and spoke to Hu Tao, "I am close to Kokomi, just as Y/n was close to the others who died- death is not nice."

"But~ there is a high chance that their families will use my company."

Y/n rolled her eyes and looked back at the shorter brunette girl, "Hu Tao!"

But her gaze was directed back at the trio on the ground.
Mona and Kokomi bleeding, Albedo sitting in between them, holding a hand against Mona's critical wound and Kokomi leant listless against a wall.

Obviously morbidly curious, the students around Y/n were gossiping to one another, some had gone inside to find a teacher or another member of the staff.

There was a siren sounding from a few streets away and the teacher who was called out ushered students inside the building, leaving Albedo, Mona and Kokomi.
The woman spoke quietly to Albedo while pressing an ice-pack to the shallow wound on Kokomi's forehead.

When the little ambulance arrived, it took Mona on one of the beds and Kokomi sat in the back with her.
The whole time, Kokomi glared at Mona, who was staring upwards blearily.

Y/n stood near the door, watching the teacher direct Albedo to the principal's office.

Then the teacher gestured for Y/n to enter the building too, so they could send somebody out to clean up the blood from the pavement.

The day proceeded as normal, the news of Mona and Kokomi's frightening injuries were kept hidden...

(Ah. This may be confusing- but I swear it won't be once I explain later in the story [or it will still make no sense.]
What happened there was kind of foreshadowed -in an amateur way- so uh, it might be easy to find out what happened.
I'd like to hear your *the reader's* ideas!)
