"Robert I do not want to hear from you right now. I can't even look at you. Luke what is going on?!" I yelled raising my hand in front of Robert's face.
"I am being promoted to Fire Chief, Robert is being promoted to Battalion Chief and Bishop was given the Captain position at station 19. Robert is upset about that...."
"That couldn't wait until after their wedding?!" I yelled at Robert. He was about to answer but he stopped him again
"You know what! I can't deal with this right now. My two friends are getting married. Let's celebrate that please." I said walking away pulling Vic who was pulling Luke with her.
It was time for the Maid of Honor and Best Man to walk down the aisle...
"Andy baby, please understand..."
"Don't start, I just want to be happy right now."
The ceremony was beautiful, everything a girl could wish for. The man she loved, amazing venue, wonderful music, surrounded by those she loved most.
It was time for the party and I knew Robert would come looking for me.
"Andrea." He said touching my elbow
"I am so angry with you right now, don't touch me." I said pushing away his hand
"Sorry... where's James?" He said defeated
"He is with Luke... is that all?" I said rudely
"Yeah." He said scratching the back of his head
At home
James was busted after all the partying he did so he fell right asleep after I fed him. I was about to go shower when I heard the front door open and then locked. I rolled my eyes annoyed because I knew who it was. I went into our bedroom and began taking of my clothes.
"You looked beautiful." He said softly leaning against the door frame
"Thanks." I said coldly
"Before you shower... can I explain please?"
"Fine." I said sitting down in my bra and panties alone for spite.
"I was on the phone this morning when you yelled at me about leaving my dirty socks everywhere... I will stop but I was on the phone with the previous fire chief. He called to tell me about the promotion but he also told me they thought you were the best option to replace me but Luke recommend Bishop because he thinks you are not capable of being a captain. He said your dad agreed with Luke also..."
"What?!" I yelled
"Yeah that's what pushed me off the ledge. I was so upset, I couldn't think straight and I thought the best thing for us and for J is if I left. I knew what's it like to hear parents yelling at each other all the time and I don't want my kid to grow up with that. I also didn't want you to see me..."
"See you what?"
"Angry."
"Robert I've lived with you for seven years, I've seen you angry!"
"Andy this was a different type of anger. When it comes to you I get pissed fast." He said raising his voice a little
"Look I know I treated this situation badly okay. I know that. Luke is really pissing me off. I'm sorry to say but your dad is pissing me off. You deserve that promotion! You're supposed to be captain!"
"Robert if you weren't so wrapped up in the politics, you would have asked me if I even want to be captain..."
"You don't?" He asked
"No I don't... it may surprise you but I want to build a family. I've learnt over the years that it's what you come home to it what makes your day. How you start and how you end it."
"I really messed up."
"You did."
"I left you to take care of James by yourself! You had to get Vic ready, James ready then you had to get yourself ready. I messed up so bad. I'm so sorry. I'm so so so sorry" He said with his head in his hands
"Look it doesn't matter now okay. What's done is done. It's what you do now."
"Yeah it's what I do now." He said walking to me
