Andy's POV
This morning is our first shift with Robert as battalion chief and Maya is captain. I can't lie and say that I am not hurt that I wasn't their first choice, I wasn't even my father's first choice but if they asked me I would have turned it down anyways. Robert will be stationed at 19 but I will still miss working my husband at my side though.
"Honey, you ready?" I asked getting his car keys with James in my arms
"Yeah, gimme one minute I'm trying to find my watch!" He replied frustrated from the living room
"It's on your nightstand baby..." I laughed
"Thank you!" He laughed running up the stairs
"Your dada is crazy, do you know that?" I said to James tickling his belly as he giggled and rested his head on my shoulder.
"Come on let's go." He said happily as I rushed down the stairs buckling his watch.
In the car after dropping James at daycare
"I love that you love your watch so much." I said while admiring how sexy my man looks while driving with one hand and caressing my thigh with his other
"I love it so much, now that I won't be working with you so much this will always remind me that you're always with me." He smiled
"Did you talk to your dad since...?" He asked softly after a few minutes. I knew he was talking about my dad not recommending me to be captain...
"Nope, not a single word." I replied
He glanced at me concerned
"It did hurt me that Ripley didn't see me worthy of the position... but for my dad to say that... it hurts on a different level. Yes I know, I don't want the position but..."
"I know love..." he said squeezing my thigh to show reassurance as we pulled into the station.
"Come here..." he said lifting my chin
"You deserved that promotion okay, I am your husband. You have to believe me, I won't lie to you." He laughed
"I believe you husband." I laughed before kissing him goodbye and wishing him good luck.
In the beanery
"Morning guys." I said realizing I am the last one to arrive at work
"Hey Herrera!" Travis said excited
I smiled. I then started to feel eyes on me, eyes of tension and I knew it was Maya's
I have not spoken to Maya, my father or Luke since the announcement of the promotion. I am more upset with Luke and my father than I am with Maya. I don't know what to say to them, all I know is I am happy for my husband, he works so hard and he deserves this position.
"Look Andy-" I heard a voice say pulling me from my thoughts. It was Maya
"No no, I know what you're gonna say... you should know I don't want the captain position, I want to focus on my family so don't apologize please. I'm happy for you, you work hard but just don't screw us up." I said laughing at the end of my statement
"I will try my best." She replied laughing
