Cruel World- 𝓗𝓪𝓻𝓻𝔂 𝓟𝓸𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻

Task 2

Zac and Marlene were walking down towards the lake when they saw Harry pacing, "You look a bit tense mate."

Marlene hit Zac on the arm, "Are you okay?"

"Have you seen Ron or Hermione anywhere?" Harry asked

Marlene shook her head, "Not since breakfast why?"

"They said they'd be here." Harry said

"They'll turn up, you should get going. Champions first and all that." Zac said

"Place your bets!" George shouted as he and Fred were standing around as people were walking towards the boats

"Who will complete the task first! Krum! Delacour! Diggory! Or Potter!" Fred shouted

Zac laughed as he saw them and said, "At least someone's having a good time."

"Placing a bet you two?" Fred asked as the twins walked towards them

Marlene looked at him and said, "I think I'll pass."

George groaned and said, "Such a spoil sport."

"2 galleons on Potter." Zac said

Marlene gave Zac a look, "Zac."

Zac smiled, "What? I like a good bet."

"Pleasure doing business with you Mr Bletchely." Fred said

Marlene rolled her eyes as she took Zacs arm and pulled him down to the boats, "You shouldn't encourage them it will make them worse."

Marlene and Zac were standing with Neville, Dean and Seamus at the edge of one of the stands in the middle of the lake as Dumbledore was talking on a loud speaker, "Welcome to the second task. Last night something was stolen from each of our champions. A treasure of sorts. These four treasures, one for each champion, now lie on the bottom of the black lake. In order to win each champion need only find their treasure and return to the surface. Simple enough. Except for this, they will have one hour to do so and one hour only. After that they'll be on their own. You may begin at the start of the cannon."

The cannon fired and the champions dove into the water, whilst Harry is pushed by Moody, Seamus crouched down, "What's the matter with him?"

Dean shrugged and said, "I don't' know I can't see him."

"Oh my god I've killed Harry Potter!" Neville said

Marlene looked at him and said, "Relax. Gillyweed takes a minute to kick in."

"See." Zac said as Harry flipped out of the water and everyone cheered

Marlene looked around and said, "Still no sign of Ron and Hermione though."

"Thinking of it, I haven't seen Cho today either." Dean said as he stood up

Marlene paused before she said, "Hell no."

"What is it?" Seamus asked

"To recover what we took. What if that's why they're not here? The champions have to find them in the lake." Marlene said

Dean shook his head, "No way, that's barbaric using students as part of the task. Especially underwater."

"Look!" Seamus said

He pointed and saw Fleur come up to the surface, "That's Fleur. Guess she didn't reach the end." Zac said

Marlene crouched down, "Take my hand."

Fleur took Marlene's hand and she pulled her up, "Who are you?" Fleur asked

"Marlene Lupin. I'm a friend of Harry's." Marlene said as she picked up a blanket

Fleur nodded, "Thank you for helping me. I didn't make it past the Grindylows...have you seen my sister Gabrielle?"

Marlene shook her head, "I haven't. She might be part of the task but someone will get her."

"Look it's Cedric. He's got Cho!" Someone shouted

"Where is Harry? The other three have made it out." Marlene said

Zac put his arm around her and rubbed her arm, "He'll be fine. This is Harry we're talking about. Right? He'll be fine."

"Don't you turn out of nerves Zac." Marlene said

Zac gave her a look and said, "I only did that once."

"And every time you sneeze." Marlene said

Just then Fleur's sister and Ron came up to the surface, they got pulled up, "Ron what happened?" Zac asked

"I'm fine mate thanks for asking." Ron said as he put a blanket around him

A few seconds later Harry flew up to the surface and landed on the platform, Marlene sighed in relief, "Oh thank Merlin."

"Attention! Attention! The winner is...Mr Diggory!" Dumbledore said over the speakers, Cedric and his friends all cheered, "For showing unique command of the bubblehead shark. The way I see it, Mr Potter would have finished first had it not been for his determination to rescue not only Mr Weasly but the others as well. We've agreed to award him second place! For outstanding moral fibre."

All the Gryffindors cheered.

On the way back to the common room Marlene was met by Peeves flying next to her, "Walking around on your own Miss Marlene?"

"Let's just say not many people want to walk around the castle with a Black. Peeves but you are more than welcome to fly with me." Marlene said

Peeves nodded, "Peeves. Will keep Miss Marlene company on the way to the common room."

"Thank you Peeves I appreciate it." Marlene said

"So how are Mr Zac and Miss Marlene doing? Together Peeves hopes." Peeves said

Marlene laughed and said, "I don't know what we are Peeves. But don't you worry you'll be the first to know."

"Good Peeves is please." Peeves said

As Marlene walked around a corner she quickly moved out of the way as Professor Moody was walking towards her, "Nice speed Lupin."

"Sorry Professor didn't see you there." Marlene said

Moody grunted then said, "Be more careful where you walk Miss Lupin." He then walked off down the hallway

Marlene looked at Peeves, "Peeves?"

"Yes Miss Marlene?" Peeves asked

Marlene looked back at Moody then up at Peeves, "Keep an eye on him for me would you?"

Peeves nodded, "Peeves is on it Miss Marlene." Peeves then flew away
