I opened my eyes the next morning later than the others. Peter was gathering books and shoving them into a bag while he bit down on a red pen. Peter was out of the room before I sat up and acknowledged that I was the last one awake. I rubbed my eyes as I listened to Tris ask Christina if her and Uriah were an item. Christina dismissed the idea almost immediately before asking Tris where she had been recently. I ignored the girls as I headed to take a shower, I was not in the mood to hear Tris and Christina talk about boys. I took my time in the shower, washing away all the aches and pains I had gathered in my short time being Dauntless and dismantling the government. I rolled my neck to crack it as I washed my hair and just stood in the water for several moments. When I finally decided to step out of the shower I dried off quickly and pulled on a green t-shirt with a kind of open back and black pants. I planned to wear a jacket over the shirt since it was getting colder.
I made my way back into our dorm room while pulling my wet hair into my typical french braids when I walked in on Tris and Four.
"A pretty girl asks you to meet her late at night and you go?" Tris shrieked. I quickly turned to look at the two of them. Four was going to tell Tris what happened and blow up everything.
"It's not like that with Nita and I, besides Wren was there too." Four tried to sooth her. Tris turned as she heard me shuffling by my bed trying to pull on my boots and jacket before they realized I was there.
"You let him go?" Tris screamed at me.
"Hey, I wasn't even in it until Nita caught me walking back to the dorm." I raised my hands in a form of submission. "Besides, I'm not his keeper. You have no right to tell him what he can and can't do." I turned to Four and glared at him.
"Nita was wrong to trust you obviously."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Tris demanded.
"She wanted to show us something, She doesn't believe in genetic damage. She is planning to take away some of the power the Bureau has." Four was quick to explain. "She is going to show us evidence tonight and I want you to come with us."
"Will Nita be okay with that?"
"No-" Four cut me off "I don't really care, I want you there. If she wants my help she'll have to deal with it." I glared at him as I stormed out of the room. I searched the compound for any sign of my friends, I found myself in a library of sorts and found Peter sitting at one of the long tables with books scattered around him and a red lip between his lips.
"You really shouldn't chew on those." I teased him and he looked up at me. I slid into a chair across from him and rested my head in my hand. "Don't stop on account of me, I'm just here to get away from everything." I smiled at him. His green eyes searched my face for something and settled on my lips.
"Can I kiss you?" He asked in a voice barely above a whisper. I met his eyes and nodded once. He was quick to move across the table, going over it instead of around it. He pulled me out of my chair and into a stack of books away from the prying eyes of anyone who might happen to walk in.
"God you're beautiful. I can't believe Four would be stupid enough to lose you but man am I glad he did." Peter whispered as he titled my face up to his and leaned in closer. His lips brushed mine gently at first and then again with more force. My knees felt weak and I gasped lightly into the kiss when he dug his fingers into my waist. Peter took advantage and led my arms to wrap around his neck before he wrapped his arms under my legs and tapped them so I would jump. He rested my back against the shelves and dug his fingers into my thighs all the while continuing to set my body on fire with only his lips against mine. He pulled away to kiss lightly down my neck to my collar bone where he nipped the skin and I squealed in a mix of surprise and pleasure. He chuckled and made his way back to my lips again. Peter kissed me like he was trying to consume me, like I was some sort of antidote to whatever was bugging him. My hands traveled from his neck into his hair and I tugged lightly on it. Peter pulled away and rested his forehead against mine.
"How are you holding up with all of this new information?" I asked as I pulled my head away from his to read his face better.
"It's easier to ignore than to deal with. You're being dragged around with Tris because of your genes and we haven't spent much time together since we were in Amity."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be it's not your fault. You're saving the world." He chuckled again and kissed me once more. "I have some reading to do but you are welcome to keep me company." He said as he gently let go of my legs. I happily spent the rest of the day in the library as Peter and Caleb read. I had dozed off at some point, my late night adventures taking a toll, and woke to Peter kissing my head and slightly shaking me.
"Let's get you some dinner okay?" He said as I nodded sleepily and took his outstretched hand to lead us to dinner. After dinner we all made our way back to the dorms. I walked slower than Peter as I debated meeting With Nita, Four and Tris. Nita would be furious that Four had broken her trust, maybe it was better if I went to show her that at least one of us could follow directions. Tris and Four's relationship was going to get all of us in trouble if they weren't careful, we had already suffered the consequences of their fights. The dorm was quiet as everyone got ready for bed or picked up a book to read. Peter was sitting on his bed with his back against the wall reading as was Caleb. Tris and Four were by the window whispering to each other, I couldn't hear them but I figured it was about meeting with Nita in a few hours. Uriah and Christina were sitting on the floor talking quietly and Cara was face down on her bed. I slipped off my boots and laid down on my bed. I closed my eyes and willed myself to sleep before I was up all night again.
