Ashido and I spent the walk there trying to decide whether this was going to be funny bad or career-ending bad.

"So," I said, hands in my pockets as we headed down the outskirts of the city, "ten yen says this 'agency' is just one guy in a folding chair with a clipboard and unresolved trauma."

Ashido snorted. "Only ten? Wow, you're confident."

"I'm a student hero on a budget."

She looked up at the building as it finally came into view. "I'm betting haunted."

That was fair.

The place looked like it used to be a hero agency once, back when the owner still had hope and the paint budget hadn't been cut. It sat on the edge of nowhere, a squat old building with cracked windows, a faded sign, and the sort of tired, abandoned energy that made you wonder if the walls had started paying their own taxes.

I checked my phone again anyway, mostly out of denial.

"Yup," I said with all the enthusiasm of a dead battery. "This is the place."

Ashido folded her arms. "You sure?"

I tilted the screen toward her. "Used to belong to some retired pro. Been out of service for years."

She stared at the building. "I can see why. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. Who's calling a hero all the way out here?"

I looked at the place, then back at her. "Have I done something wrong? Like, I know I can be a bit of a dick. Comes with being Spider-Man. But did I personally hurt someone for this crap?"

Ashido tried not to smile. "Maybe the system finally got tired of you."

That did not help.

We reached the doors and paused there for a second, both looking up at the building like maybe it would apologize first.

"Should we?" Ashido asked.

I sighed. "We should."

Inside was worse.

Dust. Rubble. Dead lights. A front lobby that looked like it had last seen proper use around the same time people thought frosted tips were a good idea. Our footsteps echoed through the place, the sound of them way too loud in the silence.

Ashido looked around and lowered her voice. "Your Y/N Tingle saying anything?"

I turned to her, offended on principle. "Did Peni seriously tell you about that stupid name?"

Ashido gave me the least guilty face in human history. "Is it going off?"

I rubbed my forehead. "No. My deeply humiliatingly named danger sense is not going off."

We made it to what looked like the center of the building. Empty desks. Broken chairs. A staircase that looked one bad mood away from collapsing.

I threw my hands out. "This is great. Truly great. I haven't been this disappointed since Destiny 2's latest expansion. Lightfall, you absolute murderer of a franchise."

A crash echoed from somewhere behind us.

Both of us spun at once.

The black suit surged over me as I dropped into a crouch, ready to strike. Ashido moved beside me, acid already dancing at her fingertips.

Then from the pile of rubble, a giant inflatable white shape slowly pushed itself up and said, in the calmest possible voice:

"I have fallen."

I blinked.

"Baymax?"

"Hello."

I looked up.
