Karan was at the terrace, trying to calm down. As a soldier, he has killed people and also seen people die. But still death scares him. It's this fear that's keeping him alive. Also guilt. It's an emotion that's embedded in him. For Karan, life probably became meaningless after losing his bhaiya. He looks up at the sky with numb eyes. Probably looking for his bhaiya. Somewhere among the stars, shining brightly. That's what he often tells baby. And sometimes he wants to believe that too. Because the reality just pushes him on the edge. Someone constantly standing at the edge but still giving meaning to other people's lives, that's Karan. He has no emotional attachment with these namunas for now, but after some time they will grow on him.
It's around 12 at midnight and Karan comes down from the terrace. Monami comes out to change the patient's IV drip. He bumps into her on the way. Seeing that Monami is still awake, he is a little surprised, but walks past her. However, she wanted to talk to him regarding Kabir, how and why he applied for the post of a professor in the academy, but looking at him walk past she decided to drop it. Karan does not acknowledge her. But this has little effect on Monami. She changes the drip and moves to her room. After 5 hours, another routine day would start and if she comes late, then along with the drill she may get grilled!
DAY 2 : MORNING 5 A.M.
As usual the morning call is given and cadets are getting ready for the morning drill. Monami first checks upon Dilbaaghji and then goes for her drill.
Sanjana is handling today's drill.
' chalo chalo, poora din na ho rakho hai ' she said while trying to push everyone to continue exercising. Today the cadets are supposed to complete the session on aerobic exercises. Sanjana walks up to Sid and says,
' aaj khud aa jaoge ya fir se paani se Swagat karno padego ' she said while cocking an eyebrow. Sid gulped remembering all the time he was drenched in water. He simply nods. He makes a face after she leaves.
Karan and Faizi are out to investigate the case of the missing children. Ayesha's father had been caught but last night a report came that he escaped. Karan and Faizi come out of the station after a small talk.
' ajeeb nahi hai, police custody se bhaag gaya aur kisi ko Pata bhi nahi chala ' Faizi whispered .
' Hume fir se Amrit Nagar Jaana hoga ' Karan replied.
The morning drill was completed and everybody gathered in the mess to have breakfast but this time Dilbaaghji wasn't there to cheerfully greet them after a tiring drill. Monami took her plate and sat down. Premji, sumanji, Chitra and Sid followed her.
' Monami, Dilbaaghji thik to ho jaayenge na?' Sumanji asked with concern. Monami couldn't say that he will be fine after checking him in the morning, but she wasn't sure if what she was suspecting was really the case. She simply nodded to avoid causing panic.
' are Dilbaaghji ko Monu kuch nahi hone degi ' Sid spoke while eating a spoonful. That's what scared Monami. To save anything from happening, it was necessary that she spoke to Kabir and convince him to just check on Dilbaaghji. This morning his chest was swollen tight and it also felt like the left side of his body is paralyzed. She gave him injections but his situation needs experts care.This could have happened due to blood clotting in nerves and surgery was needed. But there was a high chance that during the surgery, he could suffer a heart attack. A complicated case like this cannot be delayed anymore. They finish their breakfast and premji suggests that they visit Dilbaaghji but Monami goes to talk to Kabir.
IN KABIR'S ROOM
' Aap kam se kam ek baar unhe check to kar sakte hai' Monami barged in without knocking.
' Monami, enough! I am not a practicing doctor. Mai unhe diagnose nahi kar sakta ' he said while hurriedly closing the door an taking monami inside.
' Mai aapko patient chart banane ke liye nahi keh rahi hoo. Just once check him. Please' Monami spoke pressing on the last word.
Kabir looked away in anger, unable to explain why he can't do what she is asking him to.
She grabs his arm and makes eye contact by pulling him,
' agar lifetime regret nahi karna chahte ho to chalo and check him. Unki condition serious hai' she speaks while looking at him. Her eyes had so much to say but probably not enough time. And time is the most important factor in saving a life.
' Monami, you don't know' he says while trying to express his fear.
' Mai ye nahi kar sakta ' he replies and pulls his arm from her grip. He starts to go and stand by the window not having the courage to look in Monami' eyes, not as a human and not as a doctor.
' tum sirf bhaag rahe ho. Kab tak bhaag paoge, socha hai? I understand ki guilt hai, darr hai lekin.....
Lekin agar aaj, abhi tum iss room se Bahar nahi aaye to kabhi nahi aa paoge. Life me sabko second chance nahi milta. Lekin agar aaj tumne ye chance kho diya to fir kabhi, kisi se nazrein nahi mila paoge. Khud se bhi nahi'. Monami spoke with a heavy tone. As a doctor it killed her to see other doctor running away from his duty. But she could not offer comfort or words of encouragement.
Suddenly, Sid barges in the room breaking the silence. With heavy breathing he grabs Monami and says,
' Monu.....wo...wo..Dilbaaghji..wo...he is not breathing...'
