The kids showed up exactly on time. Eddie had let them in and then they all huddled around his dining room table. Mike had brought his board from home since Eddie's was in his trailer. Somehow Lucas talked Max and El into playing as well. Robin and Steve sat off to the side, watching them. Neither understood how the game worked, but they both enjoyed watching everyone have fun.

"Won't you two just play with us? El and Max don't know how to play either but they're still doing it." Dustin asked

"I don't wanna move." Steve stated. He had been trying to refrain from standing up and walking as much as he could. He didn't end up taking Tylenol before everyone had got there, so his back was still hurting enough already.

"It would be fun though. Just this once."

Steve always had a hard time saying no to Dustin. He loved all of them, but he had a soft spot the kid.

He sighed, "Fine, but if I'm sitting next to Eddie so I can cheat." He stood up and moved his chair between Dustin and Eddie.

"That's not fair. You can't cheat off the DM." Lucas complained

"Yeah, and even if you could, Eddie would never let you. He uses that shield for a reason." Mike added in

"Eddie let's me do whatever I want." He sat down. A spike of pain ran up his back. He felt his face twitch. He glanced around the table. None of the kids seemed to notice apart from Max who was now staring at him with that look of hers.

"Eddie." Dustin whined

Will tapped the table with his finger, "Come on guys, it's just one little game. Eddie's pretty ruthless with this stuff and we have three new players. Why don't we just let them enjoy it?"

Eddie raised an eyebrow, "Perfectly said." He looked at the three other boys, "You should listen to Will the Wise. Attitude like this is why Steve and Robin never want to play."

"And the fact that it's a nerd game." Robin stated

Eddie flipped her off, "Now, you new players. You need to create a character. That piece of paper has a list of different classes you can choose and a mini description of what they do."

El grabbed it first. She read quickly before pointing at one, "I want to be a human sorcerer."

She passed the paper across the table to Max. She took more time to decide before saying "Half-orc rogue."

Steve got it last. There was a lot of words, too many for him to read while everyone was staring at him and waiting. "Um, I'll be an elf who is also a druid." He put the paper down.

"What kind of elf?" Will asked

He looked at him, "What?"

"There's a high elf and a wood elf."

He stared at the table, "Uh, I don't know." He felt Eddie's hand on he knee under the table. Steve squeezed his hand. It felt like it was grounding him.

"Be a wood elf. High elves are stuck up and rude." He stated.

Steve nodded, "Okay, than that. A wood elf."

"Great, let's get on with it now." Dustin said excitedly, bouncing in his seat. Steve watched as he grabbed a bunch of little figurines and placed them at the beginning of the board, farthest away from him.
