With this particular group of people, even parties tended to be solemn affairs. When you form a friendship out of shared grief, learn each other's dark secrets and are forced to confront how each and every one of you have hurt people you care about... The conversation tends to shift at one point or another. One moment it's laughter and loud music, the next it's someone accidentally saying something that triggers a flood of bad memories for the group. Then, it's just silence, no one finding the right words to say.

"Okay, fuck this!" Zach says as he heads to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of vodka before he comes back to the living room, sitting down on the floor.

"Everyone, in a circle right now. We are young, we have a house to ourselves and a kitchen full of alcohol. We've been miserable, and yeah, we might deserve that, but right now, we are forgetting that for a moment, yeah? We're playing truth or dare."

"We are young, not twelve-year-old children", Alex retorts with a roll of his eyes, but still sits down on the floor, Charlie following in suit.

"Come on, don't be pussies. You don't have to say or do anything you don't want to. Punishment's a shot of vodka", Zach says while the rest of the group reluctantly moves in to sit on the floor with him.

"Justin. Truth or dare?" Zach asks, resulting in Justin turning down the dare of giving Jess a lap dance in front of everyone and taking a big gulp of the vodka.

They keep going in turns, finding out Tony's first celebrity crush (Luke Halpin, an actor from the black and white era, of course), witnessing a short kiss between Skye and Ani, Charlie doing his best attempt at a breakdance and so on.

It's Jessica's turn to ask a question and she looks around the group, zeroing in on Alex. They had been good friends for a long time, dated for a while, but there was still a lot of the boy that was mystery to her.

"Alex, truth or dare?"

"Out of all people, you turn against me, Jess? Ouch", Alex jokes with a smile. After all they've been through, he's honestly just glad that he and Jess are in a good place now, back to being close friends. "Truth. I'm not repeating Charlie's breakdance moment."

"Okay. Um...", Jessica thinks for a second, then smiles widely. "Who was the first boy you ever kissed?"

Alex looks surprised at the question, swallowing nervously.

"Do you want to skip? It's just a shot of vodka", his boyfriend offers, resting a hand on his arm.

"No, I... I guess I can share, it's just...", Alex bites his bottom lip, still hesitant.

Zach catches his eyes from the other side of the circle, clearing his throat before speaking up. If Alex was holding back because of him, there was no need to. He wasn't embarrassed, Alex was his best friend and while he was straight, that kiss had been a sweet moment. He never recalled that memory with regret or anger; he was mostly just proud of his friend daring to be who he was.

"I mean, we kind of kissed? It was more of a peck, so I don't think it really counts. Who was your first proper gay kiss?" Zach offers, a few shocked faces around them.

Alex smiles at him, glad that Zach had spoken up for him. "Yeah, I don't think that really counts. It was more of a friendly thing anyway, right?" Well, for him it hadn't been. But it had only strengthened their friendship.

"Just a couple of dudes being friends", Zach says with a grin.

"Alex, we are definitely talking about you and Zach kissing later", Jess adds in. "But who was it, then?"
