Pools of love (Gwenpool x male reader)

The fall of Xandar

Y/n wakes to the serenity of alien birdsong in his surprisingly comfortable cell. He rolls off of his bed and walks to the laser grid that represents what would be iron bars on Earth.

Gwen: Sleep well?

Y/n: Beautifully. You?

Gwen : I hate this place. And I hate that you like it here.

Nova bursts into the room and frees both out of their cells.

Y/n: Hey Nova.

Gwen: Are you letting us go now?

Nova: There's an emergency, I need you both.

Y/n: Why us?

Nova: We need all the help we can get.

Nova rushes the two involuntary interns out to the streets, civilians are in mass panic and The Sanctuary II floats stationary over the city- it's hum rattling the buildings beneath. A blue beam appears from the underbelly of the vessel, as it disappears two aliens take its place.

Y/n: Who are they?

Nova: Ebony Maw and Corvus Glaive. Children of Thanos...

Y/n: Who's Thanos?

Gwen: Read a book, Y/n.

Ebony Maw: Hear me, and rejoice. The scales of the universe shall tip towards balance because of your sacrifice.

Gwen: Alright, let's skip the cutscene already.

Ebony Maw: Smile, for even in death: you have become Children of Thanos.

From that point, The Sancuary II's cannons began to fire on the city. Looks of genuine fear fell on to the faces of Gwen and Y/n.

Nova: We have to evacuate the city!

Gwen: Fuck that! I'm gone!

Y/n: What? What happened to wanting to be a hero?

Gwen turns to  Y/n awkwardly.

Gwen: Y/n, this is too heavy for us. We should get out of here while we still can.

The cannon fire in the background only accentuated her point.

Nova: If you two want to leave, leave. Just know you'll have innocent blood on your hands.

The trio look at each other, both Gwen and Nova gave their mutual friend pleading looks.

Y/n: Gwen... I'm staying with Richard. He's right.

Gwen: In that case... you'll need this.

She hands him a keycard.

Y/n: Is this what I think it is?

Gwen: Get that shock bracelet off of you.

She creeps up to him and plants a weak kiss on his cheek.

Gwen: See you around.

She runs off into the ruins of the city. Y/n watches her go, confused. Not at her actions, but at how he feels now she's gone. At peace but at the same time: empty.

Nova: Anyway.

Y/n turns to Richard.

Y/n: What's the plan.

Nova hands him what looks to be a ray gun that you would find in an alien invasion film from the 1950's. It looked incredibly cheesy.

Y/n: What's this?

Nova: Think of it like a pellet gun but with lasers. You're not gonna seriously hurt anyone but it packs a nasty sting.

The two run through the streets, slaying Chitauri and protecting locals. Nova uses photon blasts from his hands to kill hostiles and Y/n stuns those Nova cannot immediately dispatch. The blue beam once again appears and transports Ebony Maw back onboard. Gwen wanders the streets of Xandar before she makes her way back to the Nova Corps facility. Cut to her rummaging through some lockers until she finds something of interest.

Gwen: Bingo.

Y/n shoots a few bolts at a Chitauri but hits only it's armour. A punch to the face sends Y/n to the floor. Before it can strike the killing blow- Nova snaps the Chitauri's neck. Nova helps him up.

Nova: You okay?

Y/n: I've had worse. The other day a goo monster threw me through a wall and tried to eat me.

From above, Corvus Glaive descends and swings his weapon at the two who barely manage to dodge. Y/n lands two bolts in Corvus' thigh- making him drop to his knee. Nova then uppercuts him down to a lower level of the city.

Y/n: That was easy.

Nova: It's not over yet.

Nova flies down to Glaive and Y/n climbs down as they fight. Nova shoots a photon blast at Corvus who deflects it into the rubble with his weapon. Y/n loses his footing and tumbles to the ground. Elsewhere, Gwen (now back in the Gwenpool gear) runs aimlessly through the city, cutting down any Chitauri in her way with her swords. She gets to the border of the city and realised she has nowhere to go.

Gwenpool: Umm...

Man: Hey!

Gwenpool turns to see a scruffy looking man calling out to her.

Man: Need a ride?

As Corvus fights Nova, Y/n attempts to distract the alien with his stun gun. Richard head-butts Glaive with his metal helmet and photon blasts the alien into some rubble. Nova floats over to Corvus who pounces on him, they roll around for some time until Y/n yanks Corvus away. L/n falls down and Corvus prepares to impale him. Nova grabs the other end of the spear and pulls Corvus away from Y/n. Y/n shoots Corvus in the back a few times as Nova And Glaive fight again.

Y/n: Hang in there Nova!

Corvus goes to stab Nova- but he catches the spear right before it breaches his flesh. However, Corvus manages to knee Nova's stomach- winding him. This gives him ample opportunity to stab Nova clean through the stomach with his weapon of choice.

Y/n: NO!

The spear emerges from Nova's back- creating an exit wound. Corvus yanks his tool out and Nova falls to the ground. The alien then turns to Y/n.

Corvus Glaive: Tell your peers. Tell them you witnessed the fall of Xandar.

Corvus walks away, beaming back up to The Sanctuary II. Y/n runs to Nova, he was going pale and gushing blood.

Nova: Y/n.

Y/n: Richard! Don't worry, I'm going to-

Nova: -Y/n. Please.

Y/n: What? What is it?

Nova: Show them. Show the Avengers...

Y/n: Show them what? Show them what?

Nova's head drops, and his helmet rolls off. He was gone. Y/n drops his head in sadness. As Thanos' forces withdraw -having extinguished half the city- they ignored any and all survivors like the civilians they were. Eventually, a second ship touched down near Y/n, the entrance port opened.

Gwenpool: Y/n! Over here!

Y/n looked up through tear stained eyes to see Gwenpool beckoning him the the ship. Y/n covers Nova in rubble- a burial of sorts. He then walks dejectedly into Gwenpool's ship and the door closes behind them.

Gwenpool: Are you okay?

Y/n says nothing. The man Gwenpool met earlier rounds the corner to find them.

Man: Is that him?

Gwenpool: Yes, thank you for taking the risk. Y/n, this is Peter Quill.

Peter Quill: And you're on The Milano, home to The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Five more people emerge. First is a green woman dressed in white battle armour. Second comes a raccoon walking on his hind legs sporting an orange costume, he has a large space gun mounted on his back. Third is a large being resembling a tree. Fourth comes a blue woman who appears to be part mechanic (much like a cyborg) she wears a red leather outfit. Finally came another green alien- this time a male. He was shirtless and had red tattoo-like markings intricately spaced across his chest and arms.

Peter Quill: Welcome aboard.
