Miles above the New York City skyline, Y/n sits alone inside a room aboard the imposing sky fortress known as the Helicarrier. The room he occupies looks not unlike an interrogation chamber. Y/n looks through the plastic window to see Daisy and Kitty mouthing "good luck". Y/n concentration is broken when an against enters from the opposite side of the room and pulls up a chair on the other side of the table.

Agent: Sorry to keep you waiting. I'm Agent Coulson.

He offers his hand which Y/n shakes. Coulson then sits back in his chair and examines Y/n.

Agent Coulson: I'm still surprised Fury went after you himself. I mean, you didn't show up to your interview and he still found you the next day.

Y/n: To be fair, I was a little preoccupied being stranded in space.

Agent Coulson: Still, you've certainly got a rep. We had to at least see if all the fuss was worth it.

Y/n: Sorry, I've got a rep?

Agent Coulson: Mr L/n, you may think you've been keeping a low profile but we've been tracking you ever since you hit Norman Osborn with a hot dog cart. Then you show up from a trip across the multiverse with America Chavez? That was the final straw, we knew we had to have you.

Y/n: What exactly do you want from me? I mean don't get me wrong, I want the job. I just want to know what the job actually is.

Agent Coulson: We need someone on the field. Not a soldier, per se. But there're a whole lotta problems that come from mixing agents with superheroes.

Y/n: Like what?

Agent Coulson: Sometimes the agents take safety as a certainty, other times they get a little too big for their boots. Every now and then they'll get so caught up in impressing a hero that they wind up dead. My point is: we both know you've got a lot of experience with enhanced individuals. You adapted.

Y/n: What are you talking about?

Agent Coulson: You haven't been paying attention. We've been monitoring you since the first time you laid eyes on a supervillain. We saw firsthand how you went from that wussy nobody to the man you are now.

Y/n: Thank... you?

Agent Coulson: You're welcome. Now, I don't wanna overload you with information, but if you're ready: we've got two open slots for a mission.

Y/n: Oh, I'm not really sure I should be leaving Kitty so soon after getting back.

Coulson stands, shuffling a stack of papers in front of him.

Agent Coulson: I did say two slots, didn't I?

Later, Y/n and Kitty stare out of the enormous glass window from the bridge of the Helicarrier.

Kitty Pryde: This is the only time I'm coming on one of your missions with you, you better appreciate it.

Y/n grins and kisses her head, slinging an arm around her waist as he does so.

Y/n: I appreciate you.

The mutant smiles and rests her head on his shoulder. The stupor is broken when the director boards the bridge.

Nick Fury: Do it on your own time, soldier.

Y/n stands up straight with Kitty quickly following suit. The one exposed eye belonging to Fury studies the duo, almost as if assessing a threat.

Nick Fury: Prepare for briefing.

The windows of the Helicarrier tint to black as the only light in the large room comes from the monitors of other agents. An overhead projector descends and a figure is shown onscreen. They are dressed in lightweight armour and wear a mask carved to look like a skull.
