Avengers Tower, day. The hospital wing is full to the brim with heroes as they watch Steve Rogers -now revealed to be alive- sleeping in a hospital bed. Y/n, Spider-Miles, Quake and Gwenpool wait outside.

Spider-Miles: This is insane. Right? I mean this is nuts.

Quake: Not the first time he's come back from the dead.

Gwenpool: But we saw Ebony Maw crush him in a ball of rocks, then he threw him to the middle of nowhere.

Quake: Well, clearly he landed in the ocean.

Spider-Miles: Namor must have fixed him up. As well as he could at least.

The group looks to Y/n for his opinion, though Y/n was not listening. In the past hour: he had died, swapped consciousness' with himself and found out Captain America was alive the whole time. The flow is interrupted by Stark exiting the room.

Tony Stark: Oh, hey guys. Claustrophobic much?

Quake: Everyone's in there but us, huh?

Tony Stark: Cap's a big deal, I had to step out and get some air.

Gwenpool: Is he alright?

Tony Stark: He'll be fine, you guys should head home. Catch some Z's.

Y/n: I could do with some rest. Could you ask Namor if he could spare some time for an interview? The Bugle would pay big money for a piece with royalty.

Tony Stark: I'm surprised you're thinking about work. I'll see what I can do.

Cut to Gwen and Y/n back at their apartment, for Y/n it was as if seeing it for the first time. The last thirty years had seen him moving place to place, usually squatting in derelict or abandoned structures. He relentlessly searched for Martin Li, only for the villain to slip through his fingers each time. It was nothing short of a godsend that he no longer had to think about him.

Gwen Poole: You want some food?

Y/n: Umm, no thank you, Gwen. I'm good.

She raises a sympathetic look and moves closer to him.

Gwen Poole: Hey, what's up? Is it Steve?

Y/n: Yeah, that's... what it is.

Y/n had no idea what the ramifications of telling Gwen the truth would be. The last thing he needed was Gwen thinking he was as crazy as she, until he got a chance to speak to Xavier: it was probably a good idea to keep his catharsis. She takes towards him and takes his hands.

Gwen Poole: You've had a rough day, we all have. But it's all over now. I got you.

The two embrace as a tear rolls down Y/n's cheek- evidently: it would be a while before he could shake the last three decades. Later, the two can be seen in bed. Gwen is fast asleep but Y/n cannot manage a second's rest. He sneaks out of bed and dresses himself- careful not to wake Gwen. He enters the living room and plops down onto the couch.

Y/n: Hey, StanLee.

StanLee: Excelsior! What can I do for you?

Y/n: I'm getting some air, if Gwen asks for me then tell her I'm boatwatching.

StanLee: It's cold outside, take a jacket!

Y/n looks from the robot head to his winter coat, to Gwen's penguin bag- filled to the brim with weapons. Cut to Y/n zipping up his coat as he leaves the apartment building, he has tucked one of Gwen's handguns behind his waistband incase he ran into trouble. The streets of New York were eerily quiet save for a few unsavoury citizens.

Hooker: Looking for a good time, darlin'?

Y/n: No thank you.

He wanders aimlessly for some time before coming to a familiar location, Avengers Tower. He is buzzed in by the only remaining presence in the tower and walks with them to the cafeteria, briefly stopping to see the Captain America memorial along the way.

Wasp: Couldn't sleep either, huh?

Y/n: How could I?

Wasp: I know, Cap being back is supposed to be a good thing. But it's just making me feel shitty and I don't know why.

Y/n: Maybe it reminds us of others we lost. Maybe we wonder why some people close to us have to die whilst others get to come back.

Wasp: Yeah, well in this business resurrection isn't exactly uncommon.

The two chuckle and down whatever substance was in their mugs. Y/n stands and looks around, squinting.

Wasp: Y/n? What is it?

Y/n: Do you see that?

A red dot can be seen on the giant glass window of the floor, just as they notice: the window is shot and shattered, allowing a grapple to latch to their floor.

Y/n: Go, protect Cap!

Wasp: What the hell are you gonna do?!

Y/n: I don't know... I'll slow them down!

Wasp reluctantly flies away as Y/n pulls his handgun and rushes to the shattered window. A figure leaps up and knocks Y/n backwards, laying on the floor: Y/n fires bullets from his handgun- only for the figure to block them with his left palm. The assailant fires an assault rifle at Y/n who manages to take cover behind a wall.

Y/n: The hell is going on?

The attacker appears from round the corner and goes to punch Y/n in the face- he rolls out of the way and watches as his combatant leaves a dent in the metal wall. Y/n shoots his gun again with the other person throwing their rifle to intercept the bullets. The AR hits Y/n in the face before the other grabs him with his left arm and throws Y/n all the way across the room into the Cap memorial.

Y/n: Who is this guy?

Y/n unloads the remaining shots in his weapon before hearing the click of an empty magazine. His quick thinking allows him to take Roger's shield and use it to protect himself from the AR fire coming his way. Before his opponent can get too close: Y/n throws the vibranium disc. To his surprise, the figure uses their left hand (the one they obviously favoured in battle) to catch it. Both parties were still for a while which allowed for Y/n to get a good look at them. He was a man who's most prominent feature was his metal arm, a red star emblazoned on the shoulder. He grunts as he throws the shield back towards Y/n at top speed.

Wasp: Heads up!

Wasp appears and throws a shrinking disc at the shield and miniaturises it before it decapitates Y/n's head from his neck. She fires wrist blasts at the man who seems to retreat at the sight of a superhero. He charges towards the gigantic hole he left in the tower and leaps out into the city. Wasp runs to the edge and looks down- only to see no sign of his falling body. He has disappeared. Y/n joins her at the window.

Y/n: Who the hell was that?

Wasp: I don't know, but we scared him off at the very least.

Y/n: You did, he wasn't scared of me. He probably wasn't expecting heroes to be at the tower this late.

Wasp: Yeah... hey, I need to call this in. You should head home, thanks for the help tonight.

Y/n: Your welcome, should probably resize that shield before Steve goes looking for it.

Hope laughs and watches Y/n walk away to the elevator, stopping him before he leaves.

Wasp: Hey... don't you use a stun gun?

Y/n: World's changing, Wasp. Toy guns won't cut it for much longer.

The elevator doors close- cutting the eye contact between the two. Hope stands alone in the tower and frowns, Y/n had not done the best job at hiding something was with him, only what it was. She returns to the shattered window and watches the once innocent, now mysterious civilian retreat into the alleys of New York.
