(A/N: Yes, I know the chapter banner is a little different but you're gonna have to put up with it if you want a larger cast of characters in these books 😂)

J. Jonah Jameson: Resignation?

Y/n: I've had a great time here, I just feel like I have a higher calling.

J. Jonah Jameson: Oh, so you're too good for The Bugle now?

Y/n: Oh, that's not what I-

J. Jonah Jameson: Relax, kid. I'm just busting your balls.

Y/n chuckles awkwardly as Jameson lights a cigar. The elder man takes a puff of smoke before leaning out the window of his office to blow the smoke out of the building.

J. Jonah Jameson: What's your new gig?

Y/n: I don't think I'm allowed to say, like legally.

Y/n's interview with S.H.I.E.L.D. was not for a few more weeks yet, and given that it was a government organisation he was unclear on whether or not he was to tell people outside of that line of business.

J. Jonah Jameson: Huh. Weird. Well, you've been a good reporter to the Bugle Family, sad to see ya go, kid.

Y/n: Yeah...

After collecting his final pay-check, Y/n shakes Jameson's hand and leaves his office. Making one last stop before he exits the building for the last time.

Betty Brant: Can't believe you're leaving.

Y/n: Me neither. It's just... after being so closely involved with all these superheroes I can't see myself living a life like this anymore.

Betty Brant: Don't worry, you aren't the first person to quit here for that reason... might be the first one to accomplish anything though.

Y/n: Uh huh...

The thick air of awkwardness lasted around half a minute before being permeated by Y/n clapping his hands together.

Y/n: Welp, I better go. See you around, Brant.

Betty Brant: Until next time.

They smile at each other and part ways so that Y/n may enter the elevator to the ground floor. Upon exiting the establishment he walks right into the arms of his new lover who places a congratulatory kiss upon his lips.

Kitty Pryde: I told you it'd be easy!

Y/n grins and yanks her closer as they walk down the street, earning a laugh from his partner. Y/n had been talking to Daisy -a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.- who had informed him that a position in the organisation entitled you to your own barrack aboard the Helicarrier. Y/n certainly enjoyed living with Kitty, though he also valued independence and wanted to earn his keep.

Kitty Pryde: I'm gonna miss you, you know.

Y/n: Hey, we'll still see each other. I'm just not gonna be living with you anymore.

She pouts jokingly but can't hold the expression long before bursting into another fit of laughter. The pair come to a bench in Central Park and sit, Kitty resting her head on Y/n's shoulder.

Kitty Pryde: I'm proud of you, but I'm gonna miss this. Waking up to your face every day.

Y/n: I know, I just can't sit on my ass anymore. Journalism was fun but it didn't help anybody.

Kitty Pryde: Well I support you, just remember: you're only human.

Y/n: And you're only mutant.

She feigns offence before snuggling up to him on their bench. Y/n sighs in contentment as they both close their eyes. Y/n enjoyed the soft afternoon sun on his skin and the weak breeze blowing through his hair. Though, in New York, calm didn't last for long; the sound of a distant explosion snapped the couple's eyes open.
