The men enter through the kitchen door to see Dean standing beside Mae, helping her add ingredients and mix the dough. Smiling broadly at the scene, Sam gives the very shocked angel a knowing look before walking over to join them.
"What can I do to help?"
Peering up at the giant moose with a grin on her face, she says. "Hey Sam, umm, you can get those cookie sheets over there, we are almost ready to start forming the cookie balls."
"The what?" Dean laughs.
Turning her attention back to Dean, she blushes. "Oh, I roll the dough into balls before I bake them."
"Just sounded dirty, cookie balls..." He tries to hold back more laughter but can't.
She smirks at him. "They will look like regular cookies when I'm done. Oh, that reminds me I need a fork to mark them."
"Huh?" Sam asks, coming over with the cookie sheets.
"You know the little pattern on top of peanut butter cookies?" She asks.
She hears mmhm and yes as responses and continues. "Well those are made by a fork."
"I found one." Cas says, holding out a fork to her.
As she takes it from him her fingers brush his and he senses her energy again but fainter. "Thanks." She gives him a small smile and returns to the batter.
"You are welcome." Cas responds, giving Sam a shrug of confusion.
"It smells so good and you didn't even start baking." Dean says, inhaling the scent of the dough.
"That's the peanut butter."
They all have fun rolling the dough into balls and putting them onto the cookie sheets, then Mae uses the fork to press in the design and the cookies go into the oven to bake. While the foursome waits for the timer to go off, they chat and joke around at the kitchen table.
"I've got an idea." Dean gets up and leaves the room.
Mae gives the other two a concerned look. "What's going on?"
Both of the men look at each other and then back to her at a loss for words, they shrug and smile. After a minute or two Dean reenters the room holding a few rectangular boxes.
"Game night!" He says, beaming at everyone.
Sam rolls his eyes. "Not again, Dean!"
"What?" Dean asks innocently.
"It's ok Sam, I like games." Mae interjects.
Running a hand through his shoulder length hair he grimaces at her. "Me too, it's just that Dean gets really competitive and likes to win."
A large devious grin takes over her face. "Good, me too."
"What would you like to play?" He asks, placing the boxes down.
"Hmm, solid choices here but I don't see one of my all time favorites, Monopoly."
Sam snickers. "That's because I had to hide it from him."
"You hide a lot of things from him, don't you?" She smirks at Sam.
"Yeah, I have to, he can get pretty intense with some stuff."
Dean crosses his arms, smiling triumphantly at his brother. "That's what you think, Sammy! I know where you hide everything, I just let you keep your little stockpiles."
"Oh really? Prove it." Sam challenges.
Dean once again leaves the room and comes back with the board game in his hands and drops it down in front of Sam. Looking up at his older brother in disbelief, Sam scratches the back of his neck wondering why Dean never led on that he knew.
"I guess you both keep secrets from each other." Mae says, holding back the laughter that wants to spill out.
Cas nods his head solemnly. "Yes, yes they do."
Looking at his earnest expression, she is unable to contain her amusement. "You guys are a riot."
"I don't understand, what's..." Cas begins.
Sam shakes his head as he starts to chuckle too. "I don't think you have to, it's just funny."
"The way the three of you interact is... well like a great dysfunctional family." She tries to explain, while she catches her breath.
Clearing his throat with a smile on his face, Dean taps the box. "How about we get this game night going, Monopoly can take a while."
"This table is too small for that board, the tables in the main room are far larger and better suited for game play, we should arrange it on one of those instead." Cas points out.
Nodding in agreement they all go out to the main room with the box and launch into setting up the board, money, and picking which token they will use. Partway through the set up, a loud timer goes off in the kitchen and the four go in to check on the cookies.
Peeking into the oven, Mae smiles as she inhales the pleasant scent. "They look done."
"They smell really good." Sam nearly drools when the tray passes by.
"Mmm, can't wait!"
Dean reaches for a cookie and she swats his hand away. "They have to cool a bit."
"Like how long?" Dean pouts, eyeing the cookies.
"About five minutes. We can get a few turns in of Monopoly while we wait."
A blur of color is the only evidence left of Mae and Dean as they bolt out to the table, chuckling Sam shakes his head and follows them out leaving Cas a little confused. Once Cas enters the main room, they all roll to see who goes first. Sam is the lucky roller, next highest is Mae, then Cas and last is Dean with a scowl.
After each completing a turn, where all but Cas bought properties, Mae gets up and brings the cookies in from the kitchen. Placing the plate down on the table next to the board, she sits back in her seat, as the guys eagerly reach for the cookies.
A resounding chorus of 'mmm' sounds and Cas's eyes light up. "I don't have to eat but this makes me want to."
"These are amazing!" Dean adds through a mouthful of cookies.
Sam bobs his head enthusiastically. "So much peanut butter flavor."
"You should try the ones I make with mini peanut butter cups in them."
"Wow, you mean they get even better?" Sam asks.
She nods. "I like them better that way but I didn't have time to plan and get supplies."
"Even without them, these cookies are... What's the word?" Cas squints his eyes in thought. "Yummy, that's it, yummy."
"Thanks guys." A pretty blush overtakes her cheeks.
Dean admires how radiant she looks, then clears his throat. "Is all the food you make this good?"
"I think so but I don't usually have any other opinions than mine." She laughs but then her face turns serious. "Ok, enough food talk, let's get this game going. I have some serious butt whipping to do before bed."
"Oh we'll see about that!" Dean replies with a competitive glint in his eyes.
